I'd like to upload this image, but I don't know how to do it: http://www.holywoodresidentsassociation.org/img/photos/maypole_thumb.jpg —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mick Fealty (talkcontribs) 00:50, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Famous People

[edit]

Rory McIlroy should definitely be added to the list, he is becoming increasingly famous. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.20.57.138 (talk) 00:50, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone leave a note on my talk page telling me where the right page for the USA location is? Thanks. TheBlazikenMaster 14:43, 8 August 2007 (UTC) Nevermind, I found out. TheBlazikenMaster 22:42, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Names

[edit]

I found this note quoted from an obsolete site:

Holywood had the pre Christian name of Ballyderry, derived from the Irish for oakgrove. Since then there had been six others. Ard-Mac-Nasca in 634 for Laiseran (later saint) who was the son of Nasca, a local princess. Sanctus Boscus, the holy wood, in 1210, Haliwode around 1300, East Holewood in 1625. In 1769 it became Hollywood and eventually in 1810, Holywood.

and was not sure how best to include it in the article tav (talk) 22:29, 22 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

3 Proprietors

[edit]

How can the Maypole Bar have only had 3 proprietors? That means Mick O'Kane ran the place from 1857, when it was licensed, until the late 1960s when he sold it. I know they say Guinness is good for you, but I didn't think THAT good. 188.29.165.154 (talk) 13:17, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

HolywoodHolywood, County Down – No clear primary topic, although the Irish one gets significantly more views (3,828) than the Scottish one (46) Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death) gets more (4,189) and Guaiacum sanctum gets 509[[1]]. Although all Google results are for the Irish one, Images does return around half for the Hollywood Sign but most Books results do seem to be for the Irish one Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:13, 10 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
