Copy edit
[edit]Greetings to all. I will be copy editing this article over the next few days. I tend to boldly change; this irritates some people. I will try to make changes discrete, so if you don't like anything it should be easy to revert. Or just ping me and ask me what the heck I thought I was doing. Orphaned references in History of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan
[edit]I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of History of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

To do list
[edit]I have copy edited this article and removed the copy edit tag. The article seems to be in pretty good shape to me, but I thought that it might help if I were to flag up some areas in which it could be improved.
- The lead is in need of expansion. Perhaps a paragraph for each section in the article.
- The article needs bringing up to date. Someone with the knowledge and sources could usefully add the last 10 years of Pakistani history.
- The sources and citations need a review. Many seem to be dead or not properly linked.
There are a lot of other areas for improvement, but those three would go a long way. Gog the Mild (talk) 22:06, 15 March 2018 (UTC)
Requested move 10 July 2020
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
It was proposed in this section that History of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan be renamed and moved to History of Pakistan (1947–present).

History of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan → History of Pakistan (1947–present) – The title is less confusing and gives clarity on which period it refers to. Interstellarity (talk) 00:19, 10 July 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose – nothing confusing about the current title,
and the proposal violates MOS:DASH. --IJBall (contribs • talk) 00:28, 13 July 2020 (UTC) - Oppose as above. History of Pakistan might be better though - unless I'm mistaken Pakistan was not formally an "Islamic Republic" until the Constitution of Pakistan of 1956. "Present" is dubious anyway - I notice that per the article nothing seems to have happened in Pakistan since 2013, but of course suggesting renames is far more important that updating text. Johnbod (talk) 03:43, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
- @IJBall and Johnbod: I have changed my proposal from a hyphen to a dash in line with the RM at Talk:History_of_Bangladesh_(1971–present)#Requested_move_7_June_2020. Interstellarity (talk) 15:10, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
- Support per common name. While the current title is accurate, certainly more people call the country simply 'Pakistan', and I assume many people would not know what period 'the Islamic Republic of Pakistan' referred to without opening the article. ‡ Єl Cid of Valencia talk 15:53, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
- Exactly! So why not just call it History of Pakistan? As explained above, it only goes up to 2013 at present anyway. Johnbod (talk) 15:58, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, I don't quite follow - are you saying we should move this page to History of Pakistan or merge this page into the existing History of Pakistan page? Or a third option? ‡ Єl Cid of Valencia talk 17:15, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
- Good question - I'd missed that History of Pakistan is its own article, not a redirect here, as I'd assumed - I was proposing a rename to that. That might be possible if the rather dubious title for the current History of Pakistan is changed, but that's probably too complicated. The two are both far too long to merge, so that's out. So probably keep the present name. Johnbod (talk) 13:24, 14 July 2020 (UTC)

Merge from Political History of Pakistan
[edit]The Political history of Pakistan requires a lot of work, citations, and updated information, considering most of its sections contents are included in this article, I think the best thing to do is merge it into this article. Titan2456 (talk) 01:29, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
- i agree, Political history of Pakistan lacks general citations or is transcluded from this page, it would be simpler also compress general history pages of Pakistan. Canned Knight (talk) 15:28, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose - the topic is notable and the article size is too large to merge per WP:SPLIT. Also, it is a very notable topic and meets WP:GNG on its own. 2A01:E0A:274:4420:E553:3AB4:B5BC:EBCA (talk) 16:47, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- Support: per WP:CFORK, the political history of Pakistan constitutes a content fork as its scope significantly overlaps with history of Pakistan (1947–present), particularly in its treatment of political developments. This redundancy contravenes WP:REDUNDANT, as it fragments the narrative and creates unnecessary duplication. I think, merging the content will probably centralize information like the history of India (1947–present). Pakistan-related articles require merging attention, as there appear to be various duplications. For example, Criticism of the Pakistan Armed Forces overlaps significantly with The Establishment (Pakistan). TheBirdsShedTears (talk) 07:35, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- Support: Its a WP:CFORK and can be merged back its very similar to the other article. Wikibear47 (talk) 13:21, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- Opppose for now. I'm willing to work on it, give me some time. It is a standard article for almost every country on Earth (e.g. Political history of Zimbabwe, Political history of New Zealand, Political history of France etc.). The main article also need expansion and it should discuss with all kind of histories, not just political history. Veldsenk (talk) 03:48, 21 December 2024 (UTC)

- The best place to look is probably Partition of India; so, my understanding is that most internation countries recognized is as soon as it was created, on the 15 August 1947. Klbrain (talk) 11:22, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
- Does it matter? The British and perhaps the new Indian government, were represented at the ceremony, so perhaps them, but no doubt most other countries followed very promptly. Johnbod (talk) 18:34, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
