Name and scope

[edit]

Following from the discussion about the name of the British Raj page, I find this page out of kilter even with that. It seems to take a different meaning for "British Raj" from everyone else's... surely this article, if it keeps this name, shouldn't be dealing with 18th century India or the events of 1857? This page name is wrong as it starts from the 17th century until 1947, and should be renamed. History of British India or maybe history of Colonial India and bring in branches of the French & Portuguese Empie sections to this page.--Rockybiggs (talk) 14:41, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the first two sections "Company rule" and "Rebellion" need to be reduced to a one-paragraph introductory section. The page was created in order to reduce the size of the history section in British raj. There, some users had insisted on adding a company rule and rebellion section. (This, I think, was about a year ago.) It was around the time I was expanding that article, and soon, as the size began to get unwieldy, I hit upon the idea of having a parent article (this one). Unfortunately, I never got around pruning either article! If either of you would like to reduce those two sections to one introductory paragraph, please go ahead. It would be a great help. We could then do the same for British Raj's history sections. Thanks. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 14:56, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I have made an attempt at this task. It really was surprisingly difficult. I am sure that others will be able to improve on my efforts. Umar Zulfikar Khan (talk) 07:43, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nehru quotation

[edit]

I've left this quotation about poverty exactly as it was, but following the steps suggested by Fowler&fowler above has made it very prominent, and to me it looks quite "political" for a work like this. However, I don't remember seeing it on another Wikipedia page and I didn't feel it was for me to delete it on my own. What do other people think?
