Current name for species

[edit]

It appears from the New Zealand Organisms Register that the current accepted name for this species is Heterocrossa sarcanthes (Meyrick, 1918). I refer any other editors to Volume 9 of the Insects of Hawai where Zimmerman, on page 797 argues that the Heterocrassa genus should not be a synonym of Carposina as the genitalia in this genus are distinctive. This was accepted by Dugdale in Lepidoptera - annotated catalogue, and keys to family-group taxa as well as in the 2012 publication New Zealand Inventory of Biodiversity. Unless other editors have an objection I propose editing this article to reflect this. Ambrosia10 (talk) 03:04, 28 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Carposina sarcanthesHeterocrossa sarcanthes – This is the correct current species name given in the most recent scientific literature examining this species. Ambrosia10 (talk) 09:04, 5 May 2022 (UTC)— Relisting. —usernamekiran (talk) 13:53, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • A full discussion is needed for this. It is not clear that the renaming has been accepted by the scientific community, and the proposed name wasn't even mentioned in the article until the proposer changed it today. — BarrelProof (talk) 15:20, 5 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Shouldn't have been done. Revert changes and close this. Misunderstood. Thought it was to move and this was asking to move back. The senior synonym appears to be Heterocrossa sarcanthes so move to this. YorkshireExpat (talk) 19:55, 5 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Heterocrossa sarcanthes seems to be the currently accepted name. Plantdrew (talk) 20:31, 11 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
