This page "Heatwave" was originally created on a perfectly legitimate grounds...

[edit]

... Namely as a specific term used to identify something notable. But in an apparent disregard for the spelling of the English language (sign of the times we live in) some think that it should better be redirected to heat wave (the weather phenomenon) and that the proper Heatwave article should just "get out of the way". This is baseless. Wikipedia doesn't instruct us to redirect misspellings to a differently spelled more popular term AT THE EXPENSE of an article that could be there legitimately. Why? Because the word is NO LONGER a misspelling when referring to something appropriate!!! And by appropriate I only mean something that deserves to have a standalone Wikipedia article (that is the context here - keep that in mind).

If you want comparative examples you can see that Beatle (a non existent term) doesn't redirect to Beetle. Another example is "Selena" - that term doesn't redirect to "Selena Gomez" on account that Gomez is by far the most famous person known by that first name. "Selena" STILL is it's own article page that talks about the dead 1980s artist known only as Selena. That's how it works and that's how it should work on Wikipedia. Correct spelled title trumps incorrect redirect. And when it comes to "Heatwave" the word is incorrect to use it on weather but correct to use it on the subject matter that is in it and for which it was created in the first place.

And one more thing: "google search" is not some magic excuse that justifies authoritative and determinative edits on Wikipedia. Reliable source (like for example an authoritative DICTIONARY) trumps unreliable typos of badly-educated people on the internet. I will quote Wikipedia:Google searches and numbers because it is very relevant here:

One of the biggest fallacies in determining notability of a subject is the results of a Google search using the title or keywords of an article or subject, essentially known as a "Google test." It may be easy to view something as being notable solely because entering the term into a search engine like Google produces a huge number of hits, not notable because the search produces very few hits, or a hoax because it produces none at all. While such searches are indeed a very useful tool, they do not in themselves determine notability or lack thereof.
