Please Put (“Shri Guru” (full name of Guru’s) and “Ji” in the last) and refer them with “They/them” instead of “He/She”. As they (Guru’s) are very respected in Sikh history and it can damage a lot of Sikh’s feelings by not paying them (Gurur’s) request. 2605:8D80:403:1BC1:BCF2:5E2B:4EC7:4244 (talk) 03:29, 31 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

 Not done: MOS:HONORIFIC is clear that we do not add "Shri", "Dev Ji", or the like to names. As for the gender of/pronouns for Guru Nanak, you would need to provide evidence that a preponderance of reliable sources treat the guru as plural or use the singular they for Guru Nanak. —C.Fred (talk) 03:40, 31 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

 Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. There are two sources cited in the article for the 15 April date. —C.Fred (talk) 02:52, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The date given in Wkipedia is misleading and not approved. "I give a number of evidences from authenticated sources which are eminant historians, personalities and Sikh manuscripts which prove Guru Nanak was born on full moon of Kartik in Bikrami Samwat 1526, AD 1469. Few evidences copied in Panjabi from reliable sources but attempt is made to clarify in English.
Some evidences are presented by eminent Sikh historian Dr. Trilochan Singh in favor of Katak Purnamashi:
The biggest proof of Katak Purnamashi is Bhai Gurdas Ji's writing in Kabit Sawaiya :
He further refers to the 'Sakhi Pothi' of Bhai Mani Singh Ji's time where the following words occur with reference to Siri Guru Teg Bahadur ji as;
English Translation: It was Diwali celebration time, Congregation gathered. Guruji promised to stay there for fifteen more days and ascend after celebrating Guru Nanak Ji's Purnima. Its the birth day of Guru, give prasad, tasmai and kadrah also. Prepare Poori, kachauri too. Lines were laid as the day dawned. Sikhs, Sadhs, Brahmins, Fakirs of all were lined. The Purnima's celebration is thus completed.
· The scripture of Baba Binod Singh who belonged to the family of Sri Guru Angad Dev Ji and was one among the 5 Singhs who led Baba Banda Singh Bahadur from Nanded mentions that the date of birth of Guru Nanak is Katak Purnmashi:
· Apart from this, Cunningham, Mahakavi Santokh Singh, Giani Gyan Singh and many others have written Gurpurab of Guru Sahib on Katak Purnamashi. In my opinion, the best proof of this comes from the Bard’s collection;
(If we subtract 57 years from Samvat 1526, then the English year is found - (see 1526-57 = 1469)).
· The Second, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Eighth, Tenth i.e. Seven Gur systems of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee's printed book and the 'Gurvans Darpan Patra' of the Chief Khalsa Diwan consider Katak Purnamashi as the incarnation day of Guru Nanak Sahib. The words of all these persons are of great value, but to make our argument in favor of Katak Purnamashi strong, it is necessary for us to give the testimony of three great men –
Bhai Gurdas: No sane person is unaware of the closeness of Bhai Gurdas, the first hand-writer of Adi Bir. In his poems written in Braj language from 344 to 348, he has clearly described the Katak Poornmashi as the birthday of Guru Nanak Sahib. The underlying poetic logic of stanzas 344 and 345 is authentic to such an extent that even the author of Kataka and Visakha is somewhat convinced of their truth:
"If the previous 3 kabits are left out of the 345th kabit and the kabit 344 before it is read together with it, then it must be accepted without doubt that Bhai Gurdas ji means the incarnation of Satguru ji in these kabits." (Kattak or Visakha? Page 143).
But a few lines later, by accusing the remaining three stanzas (346 to 348) of the scent of cosmetics, S: Karam Singh denied the fact in the 345th stanza, because if he had not done so, it could be baseless. The swagger of the theory was about to collapse immediately.
· Baba Binod Singh- One of the five loved ones who came to Punjab with the gift of Guru Gobind Singh and came to Punjab with Banda Singh Bahadur, Baba Binod Singh, a great Gursikh, has mentioned in his book that Guru Sahib was born on the full moon of Cuttack. “
· Kesar Singh Chhibber- Kesar Singh Chhibber, who witnessed Guru Gobind Singh's maternal uncle, Bhai Mani Singh, Tara Singh, Mata Sundari and Mata Sahib Dei Ji and many other Gursikhs of Guru Sahib's time. His witness is equally authenticated as Bhai Gurdas ji as he was a courtier of Guru Gobind Singh ji:
In the Bansavalinama and Gur Parnali, He has mentioned Guru Nanak Sahib's birth on the full moon of Kartik month. It is impossible for us to accept Vaisakh Sudi Teej as Guru Sahib's birthday by ignoring the authenticated statements of our ancestors living in the era of the last human master of Sikh religion.
· Bute Shah, the historian of Maharaja Ranjit Singh period, says that Guru Nanak Sahib was born on the full moon of Kartik. If Gurpurab of Guru Nanak Sahib was celebrated in Vaisakh(April) before 1868 AD, Bute Shah would have never written that Guru Nanak Sahib was born on Katak Purnmashi (See: Masti da Namazi, Punjabi University, page 77).

Can you provide us an authenticated evidence if Guru Nanak was born in April?
This is fake date and not authenticated but introduced by some critics.
The Sikh manuscripts, Bhai Gurdas writer of Guru Granth Sahib also mentions the birth in November. How many evidences fo you want, can be provided but please provide your claim through any authenticated source. 103.70.163.109 (talk) 03:57, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The currently listed date of April 15th, 1469 is cited from Hari Ram Gupta's book, History of the Sikhs: The Sikh Gurus, 1469-1708. I'm unsure how Gupta cites this date, but I have seen the same date used by other authors and scholars alike.
On the note of Bhai Gurdas, can you provide a link or the name and page number of the text where the birth date is listed as November. I see the current article does mention the various dates that could possibly be Guru Nanak Dev Ji's real birth date, so maybe the article needs to better reflect those claims. This article requires a more neutral tone to adhere to Wikipedia's standards

[edit]

For example, one section describes how Sikhism flowered into a new religion similar to how Guru Nanak's body was replaced by flowers.

This is not acceptable writing on Wikipedia. 92.40.194.156 (talk) 10:34, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
