Nontrivial coverage
[edit]Where are the reliable secondary sources with nontrivial coverage? The sources listed seem to be primarily maps, subway schedules, and a gazetteer of place names, rather than anything in-depth about this particular road. Which is fine for a basic level of Wikipedia coverage, I guess, but is it really enough to support a good article nomination? —David Eppstein 18:57, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Gun Hill rd does not come close to being in Morris Park at any point. The beginning of the street that they reference near the Hutchinson Parkway exit is over near Home Depot, that is not even close to being Morris Park. Cant say I know exactly what that neighborhood is called but it is, without any doubt, not Morris Park. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jnatch (talk • contribs) 13:31, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
Requested move 14 March 2016
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: Moved to Gun Hill Road (road). Definite consensus to move, but I can see the argument suggested by AjaxSmack, that the other titles (particularly the Subway stations) could be classed as "Bronx" as well, so going with their suggestion of "road". Note: move of the dab page will require admin assistance, which I will request after sorting the incoming links. (non-admin closure) — Amakuru (talk) 17:12, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
Gun Hill Road → Gun Hill Road (Bronx) – The road is not the primary topic and should be turned into a disambiguation page. The film has 4393 views in the last 90 days compared with only 2424 for the road. Inwind (talk) 09:21, 14 March 2016 (UTC)
- Suport creating a disambiguation page at the base name -- 70.51.46.39 (talk) 05:22, 16 March 2016 (UTC)
- The proposed title doesn't do much to disambiguate it from the other "Gun Hill Road" articles, two of which are also in the Bronx. How about Gun Hill Road (road)? — AjaxSmack 01:32, 22 March 2016 (UTC)
- Support. There is already a dab page at Gun Hill Road (disambiguation) that will have to be moved here.--Cúchullain t/c 14:51, 22 March 2016 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: not moved. A good case has been made that "Gun Hill Road (Bronx)" is unfortunately ambiguous. No prejudice against a new RM if an alternative to the slightly awkward "(road)" can be found. Jenks24 (talk) 17:01, 2 May 2016 (UTC)
Gun Hill Road (road) → Gun Hill Road (Bronx) – Compared to Gun Hill Road (IRT White Plains Road Line) and Gun Hill Road (IRT Dyre Avenue Line), this has more page views, so it is the relative primary topic, so I propose that the article be moved to the title it had before its 2013 renaming. epicgenius, presented by reddit.com/r/funny (talk) 00:12, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
- Comment - I closed the move request above as "move to Gun Hill Road (road)", for reasons given there - AjaxSmack made what I considered a valid point, that "(Bronx)" was not a sufficient disambiguator when all the other titles all relate to the Bronx as well. Since the close, Epicgenius has twice moved the article to a new title Gun Hill Road (Bronx, New York), which was not even discussed above, and doesn't resolve the issue AjaxSmack mentioned any more than (Bronx) does. I have reverted those two moves, because I don't think it's helpful to change the baseline when discussing issues like this. As I pointed out in my reversion of the undiscussed move the correct procedure, if Epicegenius believes my close was wrong, is as outlined at WP:MRV, which means discussing with me on my talk page first. As the target for the close was not crystal clear, and no other participant really reacted one way or the other to AjaxSmack's alternative suggestion, I would have been happy to chat this through here with all the participants here, gather their consensus, and amend my close if appropriate. However, since this move request has been opened, let's just go with that as the way to determine the best target out of the two. I have no skin in this game, and will not offer an opinion on whether the current title Gun Hill Road (road) or Gun Hill Road (Bronx) is better, and I will let another closer determine the result of this second RM. Pinging Inwind, 70.51.46.39, AjaxSmack, and Cuchullain as participants in the prevoius conversation: I would really appreciate if all you guys could indicate whether you prefer Gun Hill Road (road) or Gun Hill Road (Bronx). Thanks — Amakuru (talk) 07:29, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
- Gun Hill Road (road) looks a bit unusual but is the best way to disambiguate several items in the Bronx. Inwind (talk) 07:58, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
- @Inwind and Amakuru: The current title seems redundant, though. Gun Hill Road is already a road. We also don't have Southern Boulevard (boulevard), we have Southern Boulevard (Bronx). And we don't have, for instance, 161st Street (street), we have 161st Street (Bronx). I also tackled the issue of WP:PRIMARYTOPIC with the statistics above; among the three "Gun Hill Road" articles with Bronx coordinates, this is by far the most viewed. Gun Hill Road (Bronx) redirects here as well, so we might as well move it, not only because of PRIMARYTOPIC but also to preserve the naming convention among roads in NYC. ` epicgenius, presented by reddit.com/r/funny (talk) 14:13, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
- The other contenders for Southern Boulevard are a road in Florida and a road in Philadelphia, so clearly "Bronx" is OK there and "road" would not be OK. That's why sometimes there can't be complete consistency in which bracketed disambiguator is used. Thanks — Amakuru (talk) 14:52, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
- Fair enough. But what about the nonexistent Utopia Parkway (parkway) title for the Utopia Parkway (Queens) article? (Not to be confused with Utopia Parkway, a musical album.) The disambiguators "parkway" and "Queens" are both applicable to the article on Utopia Parkway (Queens). This is also the case with Eleventh Avenue (Manhattan) (no Eleventh Avenue (avenue) article), where the only other truly ambiguous article is Eleventh Avenue (album) (as Eleventh Avenue (Brooklyn) redirects somewhere else). epicgenius, presented by reddit.com/r/funny (talk) 16:28, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

- Comment only. I think Amakuru made the right call in the previous RM. "(Bronx)" would have been preferred except that there were two other items - the Subway stations - that could also conceivably be called "Gun Hill Road (Bronx)".--Cúchullain t/c 13:55, 11 April 2016 (UTC)
- But if one searched for the subway stations, they would not type "Gun Hill Road Bronx"; they'd type "Gun Hill Road 2 train" or "Gun Hill Road 5 train", so this road is relatively the most important Gun Hill Road thing in the Bronx. epicgenius, presented by reddit.com/r/funny (talk) 14:42, 11 April 2016 (UTC)
- No one who isn't intimately familiar with Wikipedia titling jargon would search for any title with a parentheses. They're just there to distinguish on topic from others of the same name, so they should fully distinguish the article. I'd be OK with (Bronx), but (road) is certainly more precise.--Cúchullain t/c 19:47, 11 April 2016 (UTC)
- Comment — I was surprised to discover that the non-disambiguated version Gun Hill Road was never used for the article about the road. Have we ever considered moving the road article to the undisambiguated title? The road seems to be the primary topic, and both Subway stations and the film derive their names from the road. VC 12:33, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
- @Viridiscalculus: actually the article was at the plain title Gun Hill Road until a week ago. See the move request further up on this page. That had unanimous support from four contributors to move to a no primary topic scenario. Thanks — Amakuru (talk) 12:48, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose – there is no consensus on whether WP:PDAB is valid. Best to keep the status quo. The current title is more accurate. SSTflyer 12:22, 17 April 2016 (UTC)

This was somehow missed in GA Sweeps
[edit]@Epicgenius: This article is nowhere close to being a GA, despite being listed. Do you think that this article should be reassessed? Thanks.--Kew Gardens 613 (talk) 12:20, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
- Kew Gardens 613, I agree. This and East 233rd Street (Bronx) might need reassessment, since the history sections of both articles lack a lot of information. Currently, these articles are structured similarly to good articles about rural roads, but the difference is that rural roads do not have a lot of history and are relatively straightforward, unlike these two pages. epicgenius (talk) 13:48, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
