News story about teacher's husband

[edit]

I reverted a pair of edits adding the following two links to the page:

I definitely feel that the latter, the teacher's homepage, is of no pertinence and should not be included. I'm not sure what to do about the first, however. It's newsworthy, but is it really pertinent to this article? The accused man is a teacher's husband, but how much does it concern the school? The school has been named in several news stories, so it could be re-added to the page on the grounds that the school was featured in the news story... But I still don't know that it's of sufficient pertinence to the school itself.

In short, we need to be careful about this. It's only tangentially related to the school and its inclusion could also aggravate what is undoubtedly a very difficult situation for the teacher. If the consensus is that the first link (or a link to a WikiNews article or something like that) should be added, I don't have a problem with that. I do strongly feel that the link to the teacher's homepage is not pertinent to the article except to draw attention to the teacher herself -- in short, it shouldn't be re-added. • WarpFlyght (talkcontribs) 02:39, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hope you'll forgive any formatting faux pas I may make, I've not participated in one of these before. I am definitely of the opinion that the news story should be in the external links as it is currently very pertinent. The school is mentioned specifically in numerous news stories.
I'd actually make the same argument about Mr. Atchison's wife Barbara Atchison. The reason the school is mentioned is because she is a teacher there. I think it is also pertinent because of Mr. Atchison's involvement with youth. Having said that, it may be more appropriate to link to the base of the school site rather than her specific page.
If we can compromise on the news story, I'll happily defer to your judgement on the second link. While I'm in favour of it, I'm also aware it may or may not be fair to also bring attention to his wife on this particular article.
Cheers,

I don't think it's really related to the school enough to merit a mention, even in the external links. However, if a WikiNews article is written about the story, it would be acceptable to link to that article from this one (you know, with the fancy wikinews box). —Disavian (talk/contribs) 04:26, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Disavian. Although this person may be related to a faculty member, it doesn't really have much to do with the school past that. Pat 20:29, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
