Clemency pleas
[edit]Sould someone point out that Mitchell appealed for clemency for these people as an opponent of the death penalty? He wasn't asking that they be released!! I think comparisons between his and Norris' clemency pleas are ridiculious. Norris' was pleading (on Government note paper) on behalf or an ex boyfriend who was guilty of the statutory rape of a boy.
Interestingly it does not include the following: "As chair of the Oireachtas European Affairs Committee in 2002, Mr Mitchell called in the Nigerian ambassador to Ireland to protest at the "stoning to death" sentence imposed on a woman accused of adultery under sharia law. The conviction of Anima Lawal was later overturned, after worldwide protests which included the withdrawal of the Miss World beauty contest from Nigeria". (Source: http://www.independent.ie/national-news/mitchell-camp-still-refusing-to-release-antiexecution-letters-2848860.html) Why was this not included? The article should be amended to include this. General semi-protection for candidates in the upcoming presidential election
[edit]I've proposed that all articles on candidates on the upcoming presidential election be semi protected until the 28th of October. This is owing to all of these articles coming under increasing pressure from vandals and unregistered/newly-registered editors with obvious axes to grind.
I've opened a general discussion on this at at WikiProject Ireland. --RA (talk) 17:53, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
- That leaves out info such as him being a cousin of "The Penguin", a Dublin master-criminal, which has been reported in the press. Being related isn't a crime, but it is notable, surely? This is a very live aspect, as another linked person has been shot in Clongriffin during the campaign.86.42.203.66 (talk) 07:16, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
