The romaja and the hangeul don't match?

[edit]

The characters read "Gae-ri" not Garie... This is confusing. Can someone explain?--Hitsuji Kinno (talk) 18:15, 2 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It seems that's just how he prefers to spell it. The pronunciation should be pretty much the same if you pronounce it in English (though I think it would look better with two r's).70.27.8.164 (talk) 03:37, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: Move as suggested to Gary (singer). Neither Garie nor Kang Gary are common names Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 17:51, 7 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

GarieGary (singer) – Gary is the common name, popular usage. His twitter can get Gary. The number of the search results of Kang Gary -wikipedia is 14,100,000 while Kang Garie -wikipedia 624,000. Relisted. BDD (talk) 23:08, 27 June 2013 (UTC) Sawol (talk) 15:03, 9 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose; Natural disambiguation is preferred to making up our own disambiguating suffix. WP:COMMONNAME is a fine rule to live by, but nobody in the real world calls him "Gary (singer)". However, Kang Gary is currently a redlink; I'd be happy with a move there, since some anglophone sources use that name. bobrayner (talk) 21:28, 22 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
'(singer)' is just the identifier like (element), (planet) and (mythology). See WP:DISAMBIG. The identifier can be change to job, born year, nationality, and so on. If the singer Gary has the popular usage than the city Gary, Indiana, the singer Gary could have Gary without the identifier. In the real world he is called 'Gary', not 'Kang Gary'. Sawol (talk) 03:09, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Meh. I found sources which said ""Kang Gary", and that's a redlink. Alternatively, some use Gary Kang; would that be more palatable to you? I don't care which. There's no need to make up our own suffix, if names used in the real world are currently redlinks. Natural disambiguation is preferred to parenthetical; see WP:DISAMBIG. bobrayner (talk) 10:15, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see any reason not to, if reliable sources can be found. Note that WP:NC-KO prefers the family name first if there isn't an actual subject preference. As matching most Korean artists, "Kang Gary" makes sense. Evaders99 (talk) 02:21, 25 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't realize that part. If Gary is indeed not part of his real name, then Kang should not be attached to it. My mistake Evaders99 (talk) 05:53, 25 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Disambiguation shouldn't be the reason it doesn't get moved. If a person's name is spelled Michelle but it's not a redlink, and Michele is, you can't arbitrarily decide to spell it the other way just because. Also, while his full name is "Kang Gary" (Or Gary Kang) as a stage name, he uses exclusively "Gary". I support Gary (singer) for those reasons.--Hitsuji Kinno (talk) 01:52, 25 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support WP:COMMONNAME plus disambiguator is better than going with an uncommonly used name. --B2C 23:46, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Gary is the most commonly used and known name of 'Kang Hee-gun'. Aman329 (talk) 22:32, 28 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: Moved to Gary (Korean rapper). Most editors are OK with a mention of 'Korean' in the title, though it is arguable that use of 'rapper' could make 'Korean' unnecessary. Most editors accept 'rapper' though there was also a vote for 'singer'. All of these options are within the normal range for reasonable titles. Note that the RM from last June ended with Gary (singer) but one person unilaterally moved it to Gary (entertainer) in August 2013 without discussion. That person argued that a rapper was not a singer. To forestall more boldness I've put on six months of move protection. EdJohnston (talk) 03:28, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Gary (entertainer)Gary (Korean rapper) – Fails WP:CRITERIA for precision Gary (Argentine singer) has 23 albums on Amazon.com. Kang Hee-gun is on Amazon.com as half of [Leessang]. Could still stay at Gary (Korean entertainer), but appearing on TV shows is what singers do, we could delete (rapper) (singer) from half the bios on en.wp if appearing on a reality TV show stops a singer being a singer. --Relisted. —Darkwind (talk) 05:08, 29 September 2013 (UTC) In ictu oculi (talk) 04:31, 19 September 2013 (UTC) In ictu oculi (talk) 04:31, 19 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: Moved to Gary (rapper). EdJohnston (talk) 00:48, 30 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Gary (Korean rapper)Gary (rapper) – This is the sort of thing I'd usually do unilaterally, but given the recent discussion over this title I thought I'd leave it to another RM. Since there are apparently no other articles on rappers named Gary, based on my look-over of Gary (given name), the current disambiguator is over-precise. --BDD (talk) 17:15, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Move to Gary (Korean singer) - thanks to EdJohnston for having spotted the move from (singer) counter an intervening RM result. A look at his pre-rapper and post-rapper singing activities (more in ko.wp article dabbed ) indicates that it is "rapper" which is over-precise rather than "Korean" which is over-precise. The ko.wp article also dabs as 개리 (singer) not rapper (래퍼) and "gasu Gaeri" (singer Gary) gets more and more recent Korean-language Google hits than "raepo Gaeri" (rapper Gary). In ictu oculi (talk) 04:42, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move to Gary (rapper) - He completely participate in all song of Leessang as a rapper. Listen to Leessang's songs. and, not 'Korean', 'South Korean' is accurate representation (ex, Big Bang (South Korean band)). In addition, sometimes rapper is referred to as a singer in South Korea. --Kanghuitari (talk) 20:11, 10 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Judging by what sources I can read for this person and the consensus in the last discussion, it appears that "rapper" is the better way of disambiguating him. Given that, "Korean" isn't necessary; the shorter title is still a red link.--Cúchullain t/c 18:02, 15 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move to Gary (rapper). By the way, this is move-protected; an admin needs to close this. Red Slash 02:25, 20 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Gary's First Solo Album

[edit]

Can anyone update about his solo album project (MR. GAE), artwork and track listing (in English too)? Also with his two recent official MV on YouTube. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Manusiafaiz (talkcontribs) 19:18, 14 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of nicknames from infobox

[edit]

I have removed the items from the 'also known as' field of the infobox. The field is designed for alternate names used professionally and not covered elsewhere in the infobox. 'Gary' is already listed at the top (Kang Gary/Gary, no need to list them separately). 'Garie' is just an alternate romanization of Gary. 'Monday Boyfriend' is a nickname. Please don't re-add nicknames in this field. :) Shinyang-i (talk) 06:49, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Removed some awards

[edit]

Per prior discussion category-wide, I removed the non-notable and fan-run awards from the table. Shinyang-i (talk) 04:24, 21 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
