Proposed move to 'Gallions Reach Ferry or Bridge'

[edit]

Given that the proposals are for a ferry or bridge, shall we move this article to 'Gallions Reach Ferry or Bridge' until a final decision decision is made? If we don't we will have to have two separate articles relating to the same project or simply not talk about the bridge option. PeterEastern (talk) 17:36, 21 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Best thing to do is go with what the sources say. Per Dartford Crossing, we could go with "Gallions Reach Crossing", but only if that's what most people would know it as. Since things have come a bit further since last year when I put this article together, it's due for a bit of a revamp. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 20:09, 21 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good. The general term does appear to be 'Gallions Reach crossing' when the type of crossing is unspecified. PeterEastern (talk) 06:23, 22 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
There are two obvious sources now available online that weren't used for the original stub. This is a report for the economic impact, and uses the term "Gallions Reach Crossing", and this TfL presentation is a general overview of all Thames crossings in the area, which uses "Gallions Reach Ferry" but also talks about alternative modes of crossing. Having got Blackwall Tunnel and Dartford Crossing to good article status, it might be nice to complete the set and do this, Woolwich Ferry, Silvertown Tunnel (though that may have stability problems as a lot of the information on progress is new). Watch this space. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 08:29, 22 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds great. Happy to support creating good articles for all the proposed London river crossings. Very topical. Not sure if you have noticed, but I came to this article from the Silvertown Tunnel, on I have been working on over the past few days. I have also worked on the Lower Thames Crossing in the past. PeterEastern (talk) 08:53, 22 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
From my point of view, it's simply that I have a need to cross the Thames here a lot. I live in Kent but occasionally need to work in East London and Essex, and have friends and family there, and the lack of any decent crossing outside Dartford drives me up the wall. Making everyone factually aware of what is there is one way Wikipedia can really help the general understanding of this. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 09:20, 22 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Major rewrite required

[edit]

The launch of the latest TfL consultation [1], this crossing (along with the Belvedere Crossing), has abandoned the ferry proposal, and these crossings will now be either tunnel or bridge. The Gallions Reach Crossing also has the possibility of DLR provision, branching out from Gallions Reach. This article requires major work to bring it in line with these recent developments. 5.148.139.218 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 13:02, 3 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I've done this, but you could have been bold and done it yourself! I don't think it requires major work (depending on your definition of "major" that is); the route hasn't changed, just the method of transport. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:35, 22 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
