comprised usage

[edit]

Wrong:

  • Until 2004, the senior school was only comprised of girls; since then boys have been incorporated into the school.

Alternatives:

  • Until 2004, the senior school was only composed of girls; since then boys have been incorporated into the school.
  • Until 2004, the senior school comprised only girls; since then boys have been incorporated into the school.
  • Until 2004, the senior school included only girls; since then boys have been incorporated into the school.
  • Until 2004, the senior school consisted of only girls; since then boys have been incorporated into the school.

Go for option 3 or 4. I think the objection I have to composed is that of intention. It implies that of the hundreds of applicants- a powerful being- selected and arranged some into a composition- in reality, there was no selection procedure. So, Iĺl copy across suggestion #3. --ClemRutter (talk) 20:24, 22 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Some academic results, a few stats -- anything! It is sad that the only fact we are offering is that one pupil has memorised a verse from a carol.ClemRutter (talk) 17:36, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi ClemRutter - I'd suggested that a new editor work on this, but he or she isn't up for that so I'll have a quick look. I disagree that Marion Dickens Lloyd is notable in this context, I have to say, but not going to edit war over it. Best wishes, Tacyarg (talk) 19:38, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I've had a go. I wonder whether a merge with Gads Hill Place would make sense. It's such a tiny school (39 pupils in year 11). Tacyarg (talk) 20:21, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I am just too well known around here for my anti-private school views to touch this one. If you have a new editor that wants some support and help in improving this get him/her to ping me. There are some abysmal articles written about these private schools and imho they are mainly low value so it doesn't hurt if a few newbies test their editing muscles. I'll have a look at the Hallfield Estate article and do a site visit- we eventally could park Hallfield Primary School there as a subsection- I don't know yet.

I see you have started to turn Gads Hill around. It is technically a secondary school so notable and should have an article. Thanks.ClemRutter (talk) 20:25, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
