Notable

[edit]

This page should not be deleted because all of the words written are completely true. And she is an up and coming singer who will be in the spotlight in a couple of months and people would love to read about her. I created this page yesterday (03/01/08) only to have it speedily deleted by the evening, without even a chance to contest it. If you leave it on here you will give it more chance to grow and increase its notobility criteria as others will be able to contribute to it. The Ginge (talk) 12:33, 4 January 2008 (UTC) Have found she has sung the theme tune to a UK network TV show and also had a couple of tracks appear on an Austrailan Film soundtrack. That seems to meet part of the notability criteria for a musician. The Ginge (talk) 13:00, 4 January 2008 (UTC) I'm going to re-format this page, at the moment it reads too much like an advert. Doktor Waterhouse (talk) 05:57, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Contradiction of dates

[edit]

This page is contradictory. Two different release dates are given for the single and album. Tobycek (talk) 21:00, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lives in the UK?

[edit]

Probably some cleaning up needed here. It's unlikely Gabriella Cilmi lives in the UK AND attends Sacred Heart College, Oakleigh, Melbourne. The Melbourne Age (5 April 2008) reported she lives with her parents in Melbourne.--Nickm57 (talk) 12:36, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation guide

[edit]

I think we need one of those IPA pronunciation guides for this article. Her name is pronounced 'Chill-me' and it would be good to put this in the lead paragraph. (I refer you to the Italo Calvino page for an example). However, I do not know how to do this properly. Doktor Waterhouse (talk) 05:51, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I added the pronunciation in both IPA and pronunciation respelling for English. --Iceager (talk) 12:55, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Singer-songwriter

[edit]

I have changed the opening para to "singer and songwriter" from "singer-songwriter" since Cilmi doesn't really fit within the Wikipedia definition of the "singer-songwriter". This is not a criticism of her, I see it as a clarification.--Design (talk) 13:08, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lives with her dog?

[edit]

Wow - what useful info. I wish people would stop including this rubbish in biographies. 23:02, 16 July 2008 (UTC)91.110.234.100 (talk)

You're welcome to change it rather than complaining here.... Thedarxide (talk) 10:36, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Other acts

[edit]

User:Thedarxide removed "As well as UK acts Girls Aloud and Sugababes, Xenomania have worked with Australian sisters Kylie and Dannii Minogue (see Xenomania discography)." While I take the point that the article is about Cilmi not Xenomania, I think there is some relevance here to place Cilmi in context with other Australian & UK acts produced by Xenomania. After all, the article currently states that Cilmi shares a manager with the Sugababes, (actually it would be good to have the manager's name in the article), so I think it is useful to also state that she shares producers with them. Can we consider rewriting the sentence in question? Let's discuss--Design (talk) 11:31, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Her manager's name is Cassandra Gracey. Given that Xenomanis is already linked, I don't see the need to mention any other acts. The sugababes link is a bit tneuous but supports the lead-in to supporting Mutya. Thedarxide (talk) 16:43, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Comparison with other artists

[edit]

Hi, I don't have a username but edited this page because she sounds nothing like Amy Winehouse, instead I and many other people on her YouTube video for 'Save The Lies' think she sounds more like Anastacia. (No User, sorry.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.139.106.0 (talk) 02:27, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that is original research and not valid for inclusion in a Wikipedia article. The Amy Winehouse comparison has a cited reference.--Design (talk) 10:28, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Holy boobies

[edit]

she just one all of the arrias she was nominated for!!!! LOL —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.134.134.182 (talk) 11:03, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Discography

[edit]

Why doesnt she have one like almost every other musical artist on wikipedia? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jammy2 (talkcontribs) 01:29, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Now she haves one. I've created a section including her discography.SylverSpy 93 (talk) 09:13, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Currently the article has a section called "Television appearances" which lists a mixture of soundtrack appearances (which should go in the discography), and promotional guest appearances on TV variety shows, which I don't think are needed. How relevant are they here? Are there other wikipedia examples to justify this list? --Design (talk) 06:31, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Performing at Aus Open 31 Jan 2009

[edit]

Huh? That wasn't her singing the national anthem, was it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Joepearson (talkcontribs) 09:01, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Peacock tag

[edit]

Lead sentences should not contain "award-winning", or any variation thereof. Lead should be expanded to note the specific awards. Crotchety Old Man (talk) 20:24, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The use of the tag does not cover "award-winning", which is a true, linked statement with qualification later in the article. To list every single award in the lead is unecessary. Thedarxide (talk) 18:22, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, Crotchety Old Man is right. "Award-winning" should not be used in the lead sentence as it is POV and provides insufficient context to the reader. Awards may be mentioned later in the lead section. I've fixed it. - kollision (talk) 11:32, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
One year later...but how can a piece of fact be considered a point of view? Uksam88 (talk) 20:15, 29 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment comment

The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Gabriella Cilmi/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.

C-class: reasonable info + infobox supplied, needs more: in-line refs (e.g. #1 status of single & Plat certs need ARIA refs), details, copyediting (e.g. some short/one sentence paragraphs get combined or expanded, Lead needs expanding too: it should summarise the entire article);Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 11:03, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Explaining my tag

[edit]

In an "Artistry" section, the article typically discusses the artist's musical style. While this does include vocals, it also includes musicality, typical lyrical content, outside influences, etc. A very positive example, which I don't expect this article to meet, is Mariah Carey#Artistry. I chose Mariah Carey because it is a featured article about a pop singer. Note the kinds of things in there. Again, the Carey example is excellent and sets a higher bar than I would like to see here, but it provides a standard. That is why I added the "missing info" template.--Mr. Guye (talk) 21:28, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
