[edit]The article is currently mostly a biting response to my (sourced) claims about the locomotive class from when I made it. Come on guys. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.31.74.46 (talk) 06:49, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry, what claims, and what part of the article is a "biting response"? --Redrose64 (talk) 11:09, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
The photograph is usually accredited to Ben Brooksbank, and should be here. Otherwise, the issues mentioned seem to derive from the "Trains Illustrated" article by WA Tuplin discussing the Robinson 4-6-0s in general published on the withdrawal from service of the last of them "Immingham" itself in 1950. It's usual to point ou that the Directors were introduced later than the "Sir Sam Fay" class, but both must have been conceived in relation to each other, and the Directors were noyably successful, mainly in duties on which the "Sir Sams" were not regularly employed. Tuplin didn't offer much evidence about their actual work!Delahays (talk) 17:25, 11 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Delahays: Which photograph do you mean? Is your comment in relation to the above comments from more than ten years ago?
- Anyway, I could never get "into" Tuplin. I tried a few of his books, but the impression that I got was that there was more opinion than fact. IIRC it was Great Western Steam that was the absolute turn-off. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 19:46, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
Sorry - the photograph of an unna Sorry I didn't notice before - the Brooksbank photograph (which frequently appears - it's one of the best of a Sir Sam at this stage of their careers) was/is the image of an unnamed Sir Sam Fay in post World War II condition in Sheffield shunting/running tender-first. Presumably in an interval between trips to/from Hull, the work they were doing at the time. Haven't looked up the article and can't remember the (post Thompson) running number but I think I'm right.Delahays (talk) 21:34, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
