Requested move 25 July 2018
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: I will go ahead and close this as no consensus to do anything in particular at this time, since it doesn't appear to be moving toward any conclusion. Please feel free to nominate the page for deletion as necessary. Dekimasuよ! 21:28, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
FutureSkills High School → Future School – The school has rebranded as "Future School", as I have indicated in the article and as is given here: https://www.futureschool.org/ 142.167.242.182 (talk) 00:11, 25 July 2018 (UTC)--Relisting. Dekimasuよ! 01:25, 1 August 2018 (UTC)--Relisting. —usernamekiran(talk) 19:20, 11 August 2018 (UTC)
- Relisting comment. Please note that we do not necessarily use official names unless they are reflected in usage in reliable, secondary sources: WP:OFFICIAL. Dekimasuよ! 01:25, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
- Relisting comment #2: exactly what Dekimasu said above. —usernamekiran(talk) 19:20, 11 August 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose. Still no evidence supporting this proposed move despite relisting. One primary source only. We move on. Andrewa (talk) 20:55, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
- Support. The above arguments are more in the line of deletion for lack of notability. If we assume notability, we should assume that the default for reliable sources is to adopt the school's new name, and the burden of proof should be on those arguing that sources have not adopted the new name in their coverage of the topic. wbm1058 (talk) 00:31, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
- Comment: That argument has been put before but I can't remember exactly where and don't think it gained consensus. It would represent a significant change to our practice up until now, IMO. Andrewa (talk) 02:47, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
- Support. What better proof do we need of the name of the school than the school itself? Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 04:15, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
- I'm not sure this is going in the right direction, so I'll note that the primary source, the school's site, is very inconsistent: it also uses "FutureSchool" on the main page, and in other parts of the site, it still uses both "FutureSkills" and "Futureskills". "FutureSkills High School" gets 3150 Ghits. "Future Skills High School" gets 1010 Ghits. "FutureSchool" gets 120,000 Ghits and "Future School" gets many more, but most don't refer to this school. Dekimasuよ! 04:27, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose per Andrew and Dekimasu. It doesn't look like usage has changed, even within the school itself. — Amakuru (talk) 11:18, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
- I don't really care to spend a lot of time debating the name of a school with less than 200 students, given that the only sources are primary or a link to the Ontario Ministry of Education website's list of "Private Schools That Have Had Credit-Granting Authority Revoked". If the only independent information we have about a private (presumably for-profit) school is that its license was previously revoked, I question whether it belongs here. The name change could just be so they can try to whitewash that history. Put this up for deletion, given the {{multiple issues}} this has been tagged for. Hmm, "basic tuition fee is $14,500 for international secondary school students and $8850 for local high school students.[2] This does not include the cost of textbooks or tutoring." Gag. After paying over $14K a student might still need to pay for additional tutoring? On the other hand, if this can be better sourced, it might be useful to serve as an independent warning to potential students. wbm1058 (talk) 12:00, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
- My Google search just finds social media, i.e. Twitter, Facebook, Linked in, etc. Probably the only substantive independent reporting on this topic would be a "consumer reports"-type review of private high schools, if such a thing exists. wbm1058 (talk) 12:14, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
- I would be happy to participate in a deletion discussion after this move request is closed. Dekimasuよ! 21:17, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
