Does anyone else think that lines like
Oh my, forgive me for having straight hair / It doesn't mean there's another blood in my heirs
and maybe
I might date another race or color / It doesn't mean I don't like my strong black brothers
kind of miss the point of anti-racism?
- You've got a point there. The first line in particular holds terrible connotations, although likely quite unintentionally. 82.181.61.48 13:11, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
- That's not true--I think the lines were just dealing with the stereotypes associated with "having straight hair" or dating outside your race. In fact, I think en vogue is actually trying to say that the African-American community can be quite racist when it comes to situations as well, which is very brave of them. 70.176.189.139 06:42, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
- I must disagree, considering other similar lines, which are clearly unambiguously anti-stereotype ("I wear hiphop clothes / it doesn't mean I'm selling dope"), it would seem that the above lines attempt to be that, too, but don't quite succeed. Anyway, no point arguing, and this isn't the proper place to do it anyway. 82.181.37.241 20:02, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
Release date
[edit]How could this song have been released on September 24, 1992? I heard this playing at a Las Vegas club (Olympic Gardens) in July 1992 and it was getting radio airplay there that month. -Rolypolyman (talk) 18:36, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
- September 24, 1992 is when the single was released. Funky Divas, the album "Free Your Mind" was on, was released six months before that. The club and radio DJs could have played the song as an album track. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 03:03, 31 July 2018 (UTC)
Wikipedia used for promotion?
[edit]I have a feeling that this article is being used to promote an online game.
"This song is featured on DANCE! Online, a multiplayer online casual rhythm game."
Is this line added by anyone with commercial interest in the online game? Have anyone seen this on other song articles? I'm removing it. It's pretty irrelevant in this article anyway. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.165.144.81 (talk) 02:55, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
I looked around a bit and the same line is added to a bunch of song articles and I'm not going to remove it from all of them. I haven't removed it from this article either, but I hope someone does the job. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.165.144.81 (talk) 02:59, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
