The article here: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Orion_(constellation)
suggests that Alnitak is on the left - ie, western - end of Orion's belt. Or have I misread that?
- If you're looking at Orion from the Northern hemisphere you're generally facing south, so the left end is the eastern end. HairyDan (talk) 14:15, 30 June 2013 (UTC)

Is it anything to do with Alnitak?
[edit]The article (and http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap990713.html) states that the star Alnitak is the source of UV causing the ionisation which makes the nebula glow, but it also says that the nebula is 900 to 1500 light-years away, while the article on Alnitak says the star is only 736 light years from Earth - in other words, they're nowhere near each other but just happen to be aligned as viewed from Earth. Also, http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap070202.html suggests that the UV source is probably a star which is hidden from us by dust.
