Proposed deletion canceled

[edit]

Per WP:CONTESTED:

If anyone removes a proposed deletion tag from a page or otherwise indicates an objection, the proposed deletion is canceled. This is the case when the objection is from the article's creator or even if the tag was apparently removed in bad faith. If an editor's intent is unclear, an objection should be assumed. Removals that are clearly not an objection to deletion, such as page blanking or obvious vandalism, may be restored. In addition, a tag may be restored if removed by a banned user or blocked user evading a block. After the proposed deletion is canceled, if you still believe that the page should be deleted, or that a discussion is necessary, it may be listed on Articles for deletion or files for discussion.[1][2][3]

There is no special case of not allowing an IP to remove a PROD. The PROD removal was accompanied by an explanation in the edit summary (although providing an explanation is not required). Unless evidence is shown that the removal was done by a banned user evading a block, I find no basis for restoring the PROD. At this point, if you want to propose deleting the article (something to which I would not be opposed), then I think the only option available is to use the WP:AFD process, which does not allow an editor to remove the notice until the deletion discussion is closed.

References

  1. ^ The addition of an AfD or FfD tag is equivalent to contesting the proposed deletion. A page flagged for both proposed deletion and AfD/FfD should be dealt with via discussion, and the proposed deletion tag should be removed.
  2. ^ When tagging a proposed deletion candidate for speedy deletion, the proposed deletion tag should be left in place in case the speedy deletion is rejected. A rejected speedy candidate is still eligible for proposed deletion, but a rejected AfD/FfD candidate is not. The proposed deletion tag may be restored if replaced with a speedy deletion tag.
  3. ^ Any page deleted via this process and then recreated is not subject to speedy deletion under criterion G4, as recreation is a way of contesting the proposed deletion.

Cast section: seeking consensus

[edit]

There are persistent changes in the article to the cast listing (adding removing actors, changing the order, changing the roles). This section is to serve as a place for editors to discuss and get consensus on who should be in the list, in which order, and, possibly, in what role they play, keeping in mind that Wikipedia's content policy for Verifiability says that all content must be verifiable. The burden to demonstrate verifiability lies with the editor who adds or restores material.  — Archer1234 (t·c) 21:29, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

any reason why hrithik's full character name wasn't mentioned?

it's pointed in multiple sources that patty comes from shamsher pathania Johnbritto15 (talk) 20:59, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

cast order

[edit]

now that the motion poster is out - it has hrithik's name first. does wiki have any consensus on cast ordering when official media of the movie clash? Johnbritto15 (talk) 22:06, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Infobox film says, "In general, use the billing block of the poster for the film's original theatrical release as a rule of thumb for listing starring actors." Padukone's name is still first on the poster. When there's a clash, as in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, in which opening and end credits have differing orders, the infobox follows opening credits and cast section follows end credits. Krimuk2.0 (talk) 06:44, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Gotcha. And hypothetically what if they release another theatrical poster with a different casting order? Johnbritto15 (talk) 00:22, 27 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If that happens, we'd go with the order in the most latest poster. Krimuk2.0 (talk) 06:49, 27 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
gotcha. thanks mate Johnbritto15 (talk) 19:45, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Krimuk2.0 Genuine question. Do we have to assume that the listing of names on the poster is indicative of an order of importance from 'left to right'? Because to me it seems that they just have listed each name above each actor's face. And Roshan is pretty much front and center. I changed the order based on this assumption but I'm happy to revert if you think that based on the manual of style we should have Padukone's name listed first. I think we can then wait to see in what order the movie's opening credits list them. Keivan.fTalk 20:56, 23 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I know what you mean, but I'm only following the way it's written on the "billing block of the poster for the film's original theatrical release". But yes, we should also see how they list it in the film's opening credits. Krimuk2.0 (talk) 06:11, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Character Names and Ranks

[edit]

I did an analysis of the motion poster, and we can get a glimpse of the three leads' character names, as well as their ranks.

  • Hrithik Roshan - Squadron Leader Pathania

Abhinandan - Failed Squadron Leader who got beaten up — Preceding unsigned comment added by 182.190.21.225 (talk) 00:54, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Deepika Padukone - Squadron Leader Minal Rathore
  • Anil Kapoor - Wing Commander Singh

If you pause at 0:20, 0:28, and 0:33, you can make out their name tags and rank insignia. Roshan's name tag isn't as legible as Padukone and Kapoor's, but I was able to make out "Pathania". YKProd (talk) 07:47, 2 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Can we wait for official announcement of their character names instead of guessing? Krimuk2.0 (talk) 07:52, 2 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It did not top the Global Box Office

[edit]

Why is it allowed to say that Fighter topped Global Box Office during its opening weekend (Jan 26-28) with $25 million?? Wonka, Aquaman & the Lost Kingdom, Anyone But You, The Beekeeper, all earned way more than $25 million that weekend! Kindly change it since you don't trust others to do the same.

PS the Variety article is inaccurate because it didn't count Anyone But You and The Beekeeper's box office which were updated the next day and both of them witness a surge of further $25 million and $18 million respectively, suddenly boosting their total. You don't expect that all that money was earned on Monday alone, do you?

Just finished watching this film and I think some article wording could be revised.

[edit]

Not inspired by the real-life events. This film is arguably just a retelling of the real-life events with some details modified to either glorify or justify India's actions and/or vilify Pakistan.

Just skimming through the articles, it is quite surprising how close they were to the film. The car bombing, for instance, happened in the exact same place with the exact same troop group and the bomber working for the exact same organization. Then (both in real life and in the film) after India retaliates with airstrikes, Pakistan closes its airspace and further conflict ensues. Newspapers and background props throughout the film also say "2019" various times. Going off of precedence I think it would be better to say "The film is a fictionalized retelling of the 2019 India–Pakistan border skirmishes" and maybe even include a section on how the film diverges from reality (i.e. the Indian airstrike is depicted as actually hitting a valuable arms storage facility instead of a useless forest; one POW came back in pieces and another required a special operation to bring him home whereas the real life POW was brought back diplomatically). Something like this maybe?

Furthermore, I think the reviews section could use a little bit more information on the jingoistic aspects of the film. To me, it very quickly felt like I was watching a propaganda film and it seems that multiple reviewers (1) (2) (3) (dunno about reliability) seem to agree.

Also, I must note how much this film serves India's political agenda. The Pakistanis in the film are depicted as ruthless (cutting up a POW's body), incompetent (ATC guy watching phone gets fooled by pilot faking Russian accent) or directly complicit (the main terrorist bad guy is seen working in collaboration with the Pakistani government/armed forces). And as Hrithik is beating him up, he keeps yelling pro-Indian political slogans at him. With this being an election year in India, sources have pointed out that a lot of loads of nationalist films are being pumped out to drum up sentiment and it seems that this is just another one of them. Do any of these points sound like they are worth mentioning somewhere in the article?

Note - I am neither Indian nor Pakistani nor have any connections to these countries. I am just noting what I saw in the film. Ee100duna (talk) 03:59, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
