RE: Article notability

[edit]

@Kung Fu Man: The way you are going about this is unusual to say the least. Create an AfD, get refuted by multiple editors, then withdraw and insist it is still non-notable. If that is truly your opinion, perhaps withdrawal was not the best idea to do.

For the record - there is no Wikipedia policy stating that "a how-to guide" from a reliable source, such as the WaPo article, does not count as significant coverage. WP:NOTGUIDE only concerns Wikipedia articles themselves, not their sources. The guide has commentary on the subject of the article and is partially about them, so I stick to my viewpoint. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 09:47, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I withdrew the nomination because I recognized I had gone about it incorrectly, and even stated such. I made it very clear I was still considering other avenues to approach the article for possible merge discussions later. Additionally your assertion that "how to" content provides notability is inherently flawed: if it did, every competitive pokemon would have an article, not to mention every fighting game character, every character/class based FPS shooter, every companion from a major RPG and so forth. How-to content detailing how to play a character is a dime a dozen on the internet at this point, and it not only doesn't illustrate that the subject is notable from its parent source but notable compared to similar aspects of the same game.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 09:57, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You are right that if we incorporated how-to content from sites like GameRant and TheGamer, everything would have an article. However, this is not that. It's in a major newspaper that rarely contains such things, and is not a "situational" source. It's clearly not just SEO written for clicks. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 11:05, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
