Eriobotrya hookerana spelling

[edit]

This name often appears as E. hookeriana, but article 60.11 of the code of nomenclature specifies that there should be no "i" before the "ana". Nadiatalent (talk) 12:30, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

if the species was named prior to the code being developed, then would the original spelling takes precedent? --Kevmin § 15:37, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No, unless otherwise stated in the code, the articles are retroactive. Article 60 is complex, and has undergone quite a bit of change in the Vienna code The introductory wording is "60.1. The original spelling of a name or epithet is to be retained, except for the correction of typographical or orthographical errors and the standardizations imposed by Art. ... 60.11 (terminations ...." This gets discussed at length at each of the botanical congresses, but is slowly becoming standardized and clear. Nadiatalent (talk) 16:32, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oops! As User:Melburnian has pointed out at Talk:Grevillea hookeriana, the "i" is correct. The name is adjectival in form, not possessive. Nadiatalent (talk) 12:36, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
