Painfull Accuracy in the Motorcycle Section

[edit]

IMHO the Motorcycle subsection is painfully accurate. Especially the brand specific comments. I wonder if others view these statements as opinions or fact. I say leave the content as is and thank you for recording the facts.

While i appreciate the effort, its really going to have to be completely rehashed (it's on my long term to do list!). The stuff may be true, but its not really NPOV, and considering the shortness of the article is not appropriate to introduce or explain (ie encyclopedic) enduros. Pickle 16:00, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I find some of the information to be false, such as the very last comment made about hare and hounds. The original usage of "hare and hound" originates from the course captians being chased by the racers as they threw out bags of lime to mark the course. Some of the sub catagories should be stubbed and replaced by more information about the differences between East, West, and European enduros and the machines. A lot of time has been put into the entry but it smells of one mans opinion...so-to-speak. I already forgot 14:25, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

American Centric

[edit]

I know most editors of an English encyclopedia will be from the States, but this is again drifting form an explanation and encyclopedic entry to a US (or even East Coast) description of the sport, especially the bikes. Pickle 16:00, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Accuracy of the introduction

[edit]

is "whereby a number of stages are raced in a time trial against the clock" (the third line) an accurate description of time card enduros, as it isn't a time trial at all, only the special test are really and fundamentally an enduro is decided on the going which isn't a time trial, just ensuring you complete that check in the exact time specified (no more, no less). Removed a paragraph

[edit]

I removed the following paragraph: "Recently two-stroke motorcycles are seen less frequently as rule changes have allowed four-stroke motorcycles a significant capacity advantage. Some manufacturers will shortly stop production of two-stroke motorcycles (2008), but sales of them are still very strong." There are several problems with this. First, the reason for four-strokes catching on (in racing, though it isn't stated) may or may not have to do with the capacity. It comes off as POV and really needs a ref. Second, the discussion of manufacturers and sales *really* needs a ref. Especially the sales. tedder (talk) 23:42, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Enduro

[edit]

Is it not true that Enduro is a widely used term for many kinds of motorsport, two and four wheeled variety? --Falcadore (talk) 04:33, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sort of. "Enduro" is used globally as a type of motorcycle racing. It is used solely within parts of the USA as an entry level form of stock car racing. The latter is pretty obscure though and barely rates anything more than a passing mention on Wikipedia. --Biker Biker (talk) 07:40, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I would suggest that isn't the case. Very extensively used in Australia for touring car racing for example. --Falcadore (talk) 08:16, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Needs a validating statement on the environmental cost - hearing loss to dust creation and siltation/turbidity in urban run-off and natural watercourses. 220.233.10.130 (talk) 07:04, 22 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Rally Description Is Incorrect

[edit]

The section citing the ways in which enduro is distinguished from rally type events is completely wrong. A rally does not involve "laps", look at the rally article, and see for yourself the similarities between enduro and rally. My understanding is that enduro can be defined as a rally event for motorcycles, consisting of rally stages, checkpoints, etc. I just haven't the time to find articles to back this up. I suggest someone does though. 86.172.134.40 (talk) 19:29, 19 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

EnduroEnduro (motorcycle sport)

– Why this article is the main page of Enduro? It is not a primary topic, I think we should move Enduro to Enduro (motorcycle sport) and Enduro_(disambiguation) should be moved to here. --94rain Talk 14:19, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support, needs clarity re Enduro (mountain biking) etc. In ictu oculi (talk) 15:28, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose for now. Mountain-bike enduro is a fairly recent off-shoot of the motorcycle sport that has been contested in various forms for over 100 years. This article could actually use a section on it. However, I think the traditional variant is still the primary meaning for the term. It also gets about the same amount of page views as all the others combined. As the two forms of sport are by far the most popular meanings, and the other one is already in the hatnote, it does not make much sense to direct everyone to a dab page that currently averages a measly three hits per day. Prolog (talk) 18:36, 28 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong Oppose per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC by usage (google test and page views) and historical significance (over 100 years for the motorcycle sport, 10ish for bikes), the motorcycle sport is clearly the primary topic. —В²C 06:25, 6 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
