Failed "good article" nomination
[edit]This article failed good article nomination. This is how the article, as of February 15, 2007, compares against the six good article criteria:
- 1. Well written?: The article is well written, good grammar, usage and puctuation
- 2. Factually accurate?: Appears accurate (info matches sources well). Well sourced.
- 3. Broad in coverage?: This is the area where there is problems. The article is very short. There is should be a section on the "aftermath" or "recovery" that details the cleanup efforts, government responses/aid, declaration of local/state/federal disaster areas or lack of any of these. The "Preparations" section mentions that many preperations were made, but there is no description of how/if these were ever implemented. Also, it would be nice to put the Hurricane into the context of that season. Were there any other named storms that affected the area that season? If so, were they immediately on the heels of, or just prior to this storm? How often do hurricanes cause extensive damage in NY or Northern New England? Besides material damage, were there other significant economic losses (fishing, tourism, etc).
- 4. Neutral point of view?: good neutrality
- 5. Article stability? appears stable
- 6. Images?: a fair amount of good quality image for the amount of text present but with expansion, there could be more. Pictures of damage or of the clean up effort, charts of named storms that reached NY, etc.
When these issues are addressed, the article can be resubmitted for consideration. Thanks for your work so far. --William Thweatt Talk | Contribs 05:10, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
- Regarding #6, there are no images that are usable. I've checked. There might be some other images out there, but I could not find any free ones. Regarding #3, unfortunately, that is all of the information that exists. There were no disaster declarations. No site that I could find said if the preparations were made. No other named storms strongly affected the area during the season. I think one or two others might have minorly affected the area, though not significant enough to be worth mentioning. Hurricanes rarely cause extensive damage in the area, though that is for a different topic. The effects were pretty minor- could find no fishing or tourism losses, at least for the area. - No fair use, either. I only found some surfing pictures. The effects were really rather minor. Hurricanehink (talk) 19:27, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

GA Sweeps Review: Pass
[edit]As part of the WikiProject Good Articles, we're doing sweeps to go over all of the current GAs and see if they still meet the GA criteria. I'm specifically going over all of the "Meteorology and atmospheric sciences" articles. I believe the article currently meets the criteria and should remain listed as a Good article. I have made several minor corrections throughout the article. Altogether the article is well-written and is still in great shape after its passing in 2007. Continue to improve the article making sure all new information is properly sourced and neutral. It would also be beneficial to go through the article and update all of the access dates of the inline citations and fix any dead links. If you have any questions, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. I have updated the article history to reflect this review. Happy editing! --Nehrams2020 (talk) 23:38, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
