labeling art...

[edit]

hi, i'm not really sure how to use wikipedia, i'm really new to all of this, but someone directed me here and i figured i should try to settle this. i'm james and i play guitar in edison glass. i can see there has been some debate here about whether or not we're a "christian" band. to give my two cents, we do not consider our music to be "christian". that phrase (christian music) carries so many different meanings to so many people and is a very ambiguous label that we'd prefer to detach from. we are not ashamed of our faith, we'd love to discuss our thoughts on what it means to follow christ in our daily lives. however, in my opinion the word "christian" should not be used as an adjective, but as a noun. what makes one thing christian or not? what makes certain music christian? when we get into the labeling game it begins to open up the door to judgement. "angelic in heart" is a song that joshua silverberg wrote about his wife, does that mean it's not a christian song? also we do not want to be called a christian band because we never intended our music to be heard strictly by christians. we welcome all, these songs are not directed to any one group of people, they are just songs about our lives, our experiences, and thoughts, and yes most of those things are attatched one way or another to thoughts on god, but our music is no more christian than the computer you are reading this on is christian. it is art, not a person. if we must label art, then let's at least label it by style or genre rather than what the artist's personal beliefs are. -james, edison glass Bluestarblackcar 15:24, 15 May 2006 (UTC)bluestarblackcar[reply]

If you were really Edison Glass's guitarist, then you've contridicted other interviews from the band that states that "you guys" are a Christian band. I have my doubts.IronCrow 23:32, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Time Is Fiction Link.

[edit]

There is a Time Is Fiction article which has been labeled Time Is Friction. Being a wikipedia n00b without an account I really don't know how to fix this. So if anyone more experienced could work on this it would be great.

Edison Glass Personally Connecting with fans

[edit]

Edison Glass is different from other bands, in the sense of truly connect with fans in the most personal way. Using a service called SayNow, the band sends their fans voice and text messages on what's going on with the group. They keep in direct contact with his fans of their latest updates on tour, random stories on the road and member (Mountain) getting married. These messages can be heard on their SayNow Page or by calling their number 917.... They also use SayNow to call their fans back. I really don't want my stuff to be deleted again. think Edison Glass is really great in reaching out to fans and I want other people to know about the great stuff they're doing. Thanks. What about Christian rock

[edit]

How come It is not said how they are Christian before I think It should have been said sooner.

How do you know they're a Christian band? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.119.69.213 (talk) 22:03, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

May be marked for speedy deletion

[edit]

As this article stands, it could be marked for speedy deletion and speedily deleted for copyright infringement. You can see that the first paragraph is found verbatim at 3 other websites. here is a google search of a string in the first paragraph and you can see that it appears word for word on three other websites. This can be easily fixed so I'm going to do it myself to save this page from the trash. Copyright violation is the quickest way to get an article deleted so I'd suggest using your own words when editing/authoring this/other articles. OlYellerTalktome 23:18, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I rewrote the copyright violated sections and deleted 2 paragraphs that were verbatim from at least 3 other websites. It's safe for now. I question the band's notability but I'm not going to get into that today. OlYellerTalktome 23:36, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As the creator of this article (most of the current text is still mine), I can assure you that I did not plagiarize. This text even made it onto the record label's own site. It's those websites that are copying off this article, not the other way around. I don't think I can offer "proof" other than this article was created in December 2005, and I guarantee those other web pages were created way later. As for notability, it survived an AFD just shortly after signing to Credential Recordings, and since then they've released two nationally-released full-length albums and have toured the United States. ~EdGl (talk) 22:17, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Please don't think that I meant to slander your name and I meant no disrespect. I never really imagined that those websites would copy something from Wikipedia verbatim since the history of text on wiki is easy to see and public record. The issue was that the text was on other websites that are copyrighted and getting into figuring out who actually made the text first is something that other editors and administrators won't get in to. The text will usually prompt a hasty editor to mark the article for deletion. I thought it was best to forgo any type of copyvio discussions and just change the text. Sorry if you took any offense to what I said. As for the notability comment, I was just saying that I didn't know if the band was notable. I'm glad that everything was worked out as it should as I've found that it doesn't always when it comes to band notability. Good luck with the your band. OlYellerTalktome 22:36, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Haha don't worry I assumed good faith, and even without doing that you said nothing to slander/disrespect me. I'm wondering if I should even restore the paragraph(s) you removed; it was just a list of bands they've toured with... ~EdGl (talk) 00:22, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have no problem with you restoring them. I'd certainly reword them to avoid any sort of possible conflict (even if it's unwarranted). OlYellerTalktome 03:08, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
