warlord ?

[edit]

The article boldly state he is a warlord . If you have any comments to this, please comment . It seems misleading, here from Wikipedia :

A warlord is a person with power who has both military and civil[1] control over a subnational area due to armed forces loyal to the warlord and not to a central authority. The term can also mean one who espouses the ideal that war is necessary, and has the means and authority to engage in war.

I am not into this part of Chinese history, and perhaps it is not misleading . From reading the article though, it seems misleading . Specifically to the point that 'warlordism' indicate autonomous or separatist ambition . Sechinsic (talk) 03:48, 15 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Duan might not be a "warlord" in the truest sense of the word, but was close enough that the use of the term "warlord" to describe him is not misleading. He might more accurately be called a "military dictator" who competed for power with other autonomous and semi-autonomous military leaders, some of which were true warlords. He was a civil and military leader who achieved and held power through the use and control of the military, and who disregarded democratic institutions whenever they did not support his power. The Anhui Clique, which he founded and led, is generally considered an early warlord organization.Ferox Seneca (talk) 02:06, 13 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
