Future

[edit]

I'm still going to be changing the scope of the article to be Valve's standalone title (apparently Dota Underlords) once more info is revealed, with the included history of the original mod and Chinese mobile version as sections. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 18:10, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Dissident93: Wouldn't it make more sense to start a new article for Dota Underlords once it's announced? Doesn't the mod that's not developed by Valve stand on its own two feet as is? DÅRTHBØTTØ (TC) 18:15, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, I'm closing in on a massive cleanup of this article. It's currently a super redundant thing that repeats three times over and over about chess pieces and gold. DÅRTHBØTTØ (TC) 18:16, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
But then I'd just redirect this page to the mod section on that article, making the end result exactly the same. I don't see the point in having both an Auto Chess (mod) article, as well as the Valve game. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 18:23, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@DarthBotto: Unless I misunderstood, Drodo just announced at E3 that their previously mobile version of Auto Chess will now be coming to PC via the Epic Games Store. Knowing this, it's probably best to go with your original intent of having two separate articles, with this article having the mod's origins and its legacy (such as the League of Legends gamemode that just got announced), and the Valve game/Underlords on its own. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 18:18, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Dissident93: You understood correctly; Auto Chess is being expanded as an Epic Store exclusive. I'm going to make an edit or two, reflecting on the "Duoduo" title being irrelevant, as besides a small note made in a Chinese change log, there hasn't been any other mention elsewhere. I believe we need three articles, as DAC is the one that's inspiring a hell of a lot of clones. I mean, we've seen half a dozen at E3 alone. I think it necessitates a new page, the same way we have the original DotA page. DÅRTHBØTTØ (TC) 20:08, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@DarthBotto: I still think that the original mod and its origins belong on this article in a history section and not as a separate article, at least for now. I also think we should now move this page to simply "Auto Chess" due to that being the official name of the standalone, as well as the common name of the original mod. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 21:33, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Dissident93: I don't know, man. All these companies that are announcing their own autobattlers are referencing DAC specifically, without mentioning Drodo's stand-alone remake. There's already so much to say already - with more coming in every day - that it seems disingenuous for us to path it to them like they're the same thing. I just feel like it's a different situation from most mods, such as the original Counter-Strike and Team Fortress, where there's scarcely any trace of the original. Honestly, the last time it's been this extreme was ten years ago, with the original DotA. I mean, if you petition to rename the page, I won't protest; I simply am feeling like these subjects are big on their own. DÅRTHBØTTØ (TC) 20:33, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@DarthBotto: Well, we can always split the article later if it doesn't flow well or becomes too large. I think we need more opinions on this first, though. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 03:08, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Define as part of new autobattler genre, downplay chess elements

[edit]

I'm no wiki editor, I don't know the syntax, but I created an account to make a suggestion. Recently auto chess has spawned into a subgenre known as an autobattler. I think emphasising this relationship to newer games such as Teamfight Tactics and Dota Underlords is important.

I also think these new developments reinforce the fact that this game bears little resemblance to chess other than the appearance of the battlefield and the naming conventions used. I'd argue the chess influences should be summed up as a theme rather than "chess elements", otherwise the link should be substantiated. BlueZi (talk) 00:27, 27 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
