Key

[edit]

Changed F# to Gb. Removed part of the sentence that stated the vocals were "in Bb" because that makes no sense. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.164.62.91 (talk) 23:11, 25 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Genre

[edit]

I've noticed that the genre in the infobox has been switching back and forth between "electro" and "electronic". Do we have third-party sources describing the song as electro? There are some reviews calling the album as a whole electronic and pop, so I'm wondering if this assertion of electro is WP:OR or not. jhsounds (talk) 18:39, 10 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

See here: "It's got a bit of an Afrika Bambaataa-proto-electro vibe." Or here: "Panda Bear... aces his vocal turn on “Doin’ It Right”, a terrifically uplifting bit of electro-pop." Most reviews I've read about the song comment on the minimalist nature of the song, the drum machine, the vocoder vocals... these are all defining characteristics of electro songs, whether they come out and say the name of the genre or not. Y2Kcrazyjoker4 (talkcontributions) 19:09, 11 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the clarification. I added these direct genre references to the article, since deriving the genre solely from characteristics could be seen as O.R. synthesis. jhsounds (talk) 21:12, 11 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Background

[edit]

Background seems to be more about Panda Bear than the song's background. 2001:558:6045:78:B013:FBCB:85AC:6A2C (talk) 04:03, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I trimmed out the bit about Panda Bear's brother as it wasn't directly related to background of "Doin' It Right". The story of how Lennox found out about Daft Punk, and his attempts to get the duo to remix his work, I think is relevant as those events led to their collaboration. jhsounds (talk) 15:51, 13 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

– 2013 Daft Punk song not more notable than all other songs/albums combined, just more WP:RECENT. The third move is tentatively proposed, difficult to know since this scuba diving safety regime is relatively recent (2009 article creation) and doesn't appear to have made it to Google Books yet. Relisted. BDD (talk) 21:20, 5 December 2014 (UTC) In ictu oculi (talk) 06:32, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Agree, as long as you retarget the various links. My personal taste would be for the disambiguation page to be titled "Doing It Right", even though most of the entries are called "Doin' ...", as it seems more natural and predictable for a "Doin' ..." to be listed under "Doing ..." than vice versa. W. P. Uzer (talk) 07:26, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
This would also be my preference if the scuba diving article moves. If other users support per W P Uzer will amend template so second is Doing It Right (disambiguation)Doing It Right. In ictu oculi (talk) 08:40, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per WP:SONGDAB. The minor difference between "Doin'" and "Doing" is unlikely to be followed consistently by sources and readers, and is therefore insufficient disambiguation. —BarrelProof (talk) 21:02, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. We always try to use the minimum disambiguation necessary. In this case there are exactly two articles (with slightly different titles) and all that is needed to completely disambiguate in any circumstance is a hat-note on each one pointing the other. WP:2DABS gives us this advice:
If the titles of two articles differ only in capitalization or the separation or non-separation of components (as per WP:DIFFCAPS or WP:PLURALPT), the articles each should contain a hatnote to link to each other.
That's all that's necessary. --RexxS (talk) 02:47, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Per the dab page, it looks to me like there's about 17 topics involved here. —BarrelProof (talk) 05:41, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies - From the discussion above, I gained the impression that there was just the 2013 song involved in addition to the scuba term. As a scuba diver, I'd naturally prefer visitors to find the DIR article directly on a search. In addition, only one article out of those 16 film/music topics actually exists and the present dab page is being used to direct readers to the artists or albums, not to articles with the same topic name. However, I understand the reasoning of the music/film editors. Is there any good reason, though, that the scuba term "Doing It Right" should be moved? From what I can see, almost all of the film/music uses employ the "Doin' " spelling, and the page Doin' It Right would seem to be the natural choice for a dab page for them, making it unnecessary to interfere with the scuba article (especially as it would lose its Google search ranking). The scuba article should continue to use a hatnote, of course, to catch searches for the other topics. --RexxS (talk) 13:46, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose, as per RexxS's reasoning above. There are no other articles with the same exact title plus a parenthetical, so this page does not need to be moved. The scuba diving thing can stay where it is as well, since the title is distinct. As long as they both have hatnotes, we're already good. --V2Blast (talk) 08:46, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
User:V2Blast Well what about the song - The question would be why a song charting at UK No. 193 has an article at all? In ictu oculi (talk) 23:01, 5 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
