Plans for Dimond really from California?

[edit]

The claim that a given school--high school or college--was based on a set of plans that were inappropriate for the school's site is a persistent urban myth at some schools, like the State U of New York at Albany. Is there any source that suggests that Dimond's plans were off-the-shelf? I think both Dimond and Service High Schools were concrete tilt-up structures that were built the way they were because it was cheaper, not due to any plans.

Of course, if the plans did come from California, this should somehow be documented.

There was an election held in 1999 to issue bonds to replace the structure. This should indicate to almost everyone that the issue was thoroughly discussed beforehand. Elections are routinely covered by reliable sources. Therefore, it's more than likely that you will find something. Since this occurred in 1999, the obvious problem is that it's not as easy to find those sources as it would a current news issue. Failing that, ASD no doubt possesses abundant documentation, whether originating from the administration or from the school board. Those may be considered primary sources, however. I do know that the existence and location of the swimming pools serving both Dimond and Service were for purposes of providing an emergency water supply for fire suppression more than anything else. The water delivery network in Anchorage in the late 1960s and early 1970s was a far cry from what Anchorage enjoys today. Anchorage still had a city and a borough, with the boundaries of the city stretching only as far south as Tudor Road. Most of what the Greater Anchorage Area Borough accomplished had to do with building water and sewer networks, but the area outside of Anchorage city limits was still somewhat considered the boonies. Anyway, the point about the pools may be a little harder to establish through reliable sources.RadioKAOS (talk) 12:01, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Persons affiliated with Dimond

[edit]

I left Dave Donley out of the list of notable alumni, mainly because there hasn't been an article created yet. I came across a new user who may be the real Dave Donley. The first edit from this account was to Dan White, stating that White was a "security professional" at Dimond during 1972 (which was the year Donley graduated). I'd be willing to bet that it will be reverted for lack of reliable sources. Local newspapers and other news outlets commonly react to national news stories by presenting a "local angle" when one exists. Of course, the Times is completely absent from Google Newspapers. The Daily News is on there, but there is nothing from 1978. In 1978, the Daily News was barely hanging on (this was immediately before McClatchy purchased the newspaper) and the Times was by far the more dominant of the two newspapers. If there is any truth to this, it may be worth checking out, but may also require some real work.RadioKAOS (talk) 12:01, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
