Made of lentils and caramel?
[edit]The article claims that two of the four construction materials to build the tower are lentils and caramel. Sounds crazy to me, but what do I know? If true, this fact does still require inline verifiability. Thanks for the interesting article. --Ds13 (talk) 05:16, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
- I had a good look and can't find anything which supports this. The other content which was added in the same edit - about the tower being used for bugle calls - seems valid, so it's hard to say whether this was a hoax, misunderstanding or what. The editor only made that one edit. As the content has been challenged for years now, it's time for it to go. Andrew D. (talk) 09:31, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
- It sounds a delightful idea to me, and not totally impossible – dried lentils for bulk and caramel to bind the other materials – but as the assertion is not verifiable, you are right to remove it. LynwoodF (talk) 11:29, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
Name & wall thickness
[edit]Where does its name Dharahara come from? Wall thickness seems to be bigger than 46 cm (1.5 ft) as stated in NYT-Video. In the picture in http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/nepal/11562988/19th-century-tower-collapses-from-earthquake-in-Nepal.html it seems to be rather 1.5 m near the first floor and to have about 5.5 m outer diameter. Estimated in comparison to person nearby. --Helium4 (talk) 09:31, 26 April 2015 (UTC).
inaccurate sentences
[edit]"Only two of the 11 stories of the second tower remained"
The above is incorrect. The first tower was 11 stories, the second 9 stories tall.
I think it is supposed to say
"Only two of the 9 stories of the second tower remained"
or
"Only two of the 11 stories of the first tower remained"
In addition:
"Dharahara in Kathmandu was the tallest building in Nepal and the second such tower built by Bhimsen Thapa."
That is a confusing sentence. The first tower was the tallest building in Nepal. So it should be
"Dharahara in Kathmandu was the tallest building in Nepal since 1934 and the second such tower built by Bhimsen Thapa."
or
"Dharahara in Kathmandu was the second tallest building ever in Nepal and the second such tower built by Bhimsen Thapa."
