moved from http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Bombardier_Transportation&action=historysubmit&diff=438034017&oldid=438007642

July 2011: Bombardier Transportation will lay off almost a half of their 3,000 employees at the [[Litchurch]] Lane Plant. It was 'inevitable' 446 permanent staff and 983 contractors would be laid off. The action follows loss bidding againts [[Siemens]] for Thameslink programme and loss bidding againts [[Hitachi]] for Inter City Express programme, while current works will be finished soon.<ref>[http://www.ft.com/intl/cms/s/0/dba3e31e-a6d7-11e0-a808-00144feabdc0.html#axzz1RIrYfWN0 Bombardier announces UK lay-offs]</ref>

Thanks for updating the article - some dates for contracts are missing. If dates can be supplied with a source feel free to leave the link here or put it within <ref> ... </ref> tabs in the article and I will try to clean it up. Or DIY.

As regards Thameslink - it's not clear, and I'm not sure it's true that the jobs losses are related to the loss of the contract - please check and correct eg from the link in the article They pointed to a recent letter to Hammond in which Bombardier warned that 1,200 jobs were at risk even if the company did not win the order. Please fix.Imgaril (talk) 13:16, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Also Bombardier Derby is the only remaining specialist British train manufacturer - I don't think that is what meant - there are other 'specialist manufacturers' eg shunters. Not sure what should be said here if anything - needs a date/year at least.Imgaril (talk) 14:48, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
