I have re-created this page because I believe this man is notable (having searched for him after seeing him listed as the composer of something without knowing anything about him) and this is not a vanity page creation, which was a main criticism of the deleted page. Plus there are more sources now. I note that the deletion review was closed 'without prejudice to a sourced rewrite', which I claim the new article to be. Clavecin 12:42, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
Indeed so. to be honest, I don't know why there hasn't been a wikipedia article for him all these years. Plus, there is even more interesting information about him... anyway, i am too lazy to contribute now :) Just wanted to say "good one". MarekTT (talk) 22:15, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
Ancestry
[edit]Dennis Báthory-Kitsz is so annoying and full of himself when he claims he may possibly be related to Elizabeth Báthory and the aristocratic Báthory family. Just because his name happens to be Báthory it doesn't mean or prove that he is their descendant. He has many people fooled and the History Channel special he was on has done a lot of damage in this respect.
There are many Hungarians today with the Báthory name. It's not a common Hungarian name, but it isn't uncommon. How do we explain why there are so many people with this name? Chances are Mr. Báthory-Kitsz (as well as others with the same surname) had an ancestor who was a serf on one of the many estates owned by the Báthory family and subsequently adopted the surname of his feudal landlord which was not uncommon at the time. This is somewhat similar in practice to giving African slaves the surnames of their owners.
If Mr. Báthory-Kitsz claims he may be related to Elizabeth Báthory then his argument would be stronger if his family name was Nádasdy, which it isn't. Elizabeth Báthory was married to Ferenc Nádasdy and they had five children who inherited their father's surname. They had two daughters Anna and Kata who were later married to Miklós Zrínyi and György Homonnai Drugheth respectively. They also had two sons András who died young at age five, and Pál. This noble family has been around ever since and members are still living today. This info can be found in the book A Nádasdyak by József Bessenyei which is a history of the family in Hungarian.
I'm sure Mr. Báthory-Kitsz is a fine fellow and I'm proud this talented man is Hungarian like myself, but I have to say he is quite over zealous in regards to his origins which may not be so illustrious after all.--Gyula (talk) 00:00, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Don't be ridiculous. Your very first sentence with the use of "may possihbly" makes it clear that Báthory-Kitsz only speculates about a possible relationship, not making any definitive claim. Báthory-Kitsz has a long fascination with the Báthory story with some plans to write an opera on the topic and of course his readers are going to be curious about the name. Your phrase "annoying and full of himself" is rude and inappropriate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.193.76.68 (talk) 22:21, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
Ridiculous? Rude and inappropriate? Is misleading people not ridiculous? Is providing false information to people seeking answers to questions not innaproriate? Yes, Mr. Báthory-Kitsz has speculated about a possible relationship and has not made a definitive claim to Erzsébet Báthory being his ancestor yet others have written that he is related to her. Yes, readers will be curious about the name he shares with Countess Báthory. Yet it is not uncommon for Hungarians to have this name as he most certainly does. So why not say his interest in the subject has to do with sharing the same name? This article stated he wrote an opera about his ancestor! Really? Just like that? No proof needed? Scholarship got thrown out the window on this one! Rude and inappropriate indeed! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gyula (talk • contribs) 23:33, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
pseudonyms
[edit]Might be a good addition to add why he has so many names. It seems quite unusual. Thank you --Omarcheeseboro (talk) 21:49, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
