Private (shared) transport or public transport?

- I'll tentatively reply, because to the best of my knowledge Dial-a-Ride was coined by London Transport and the operators of the Greenwich Association of the Disabled GAD-About service for its clone, to service the whole of London, a scope far beyond GAD's mandate, in about 1984. GAD-About was set up in the late 1970s to provide comparable transport to London Transport's buses, at the same fare, but at a more door-to-door level, needed by people with mobility issues. GAD received operating grants from both the local and city authorities.
- The choice of Mercedes minibuses was made under advice from the London Ambulance Service, who supply similar transport for more strictly medical purposes, and proved eminently satisfactory from the start. I was called in to do the accounting for the handover, done on a strict cost-recovery basis, and provided a draft accounting structure, which was designed to facilitate further roll-out. To find similar activities in the US is a very pleasant surprise.
- Therefore, to answer your question, the initiative started in a self-help charity operating under predominantly public grant funding, and moved to the regional transport system in the public sector. There is no fundamental reason, were that for example to be a private franchise, for it not to operate in private hands, although I'm certain, given Greenwich's socialist principles, this might not get the originators' blessing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.213.9.109 (talk) 03:13, 16 August 2020 (UTC)

Add entry for RTS On Demand under New York
[edit]I tried to add the following line under the section for New York State, USA. Unfortunately, my edit would not be saved because of some filter. I think my edit is reasonable. Could someone with elevated permissions please add this?
