Letters to the editor

[edit]

Hi @Smobes,

I previously deleted content from a source that you cited on this page because it was a letter to the editor from a writer who does not appear to be notable, and you added it back onto the page. A letter to the editor is not generally considered a reliable source, as they not subject to the fact checking required by a news story or an editorial written by the paper. Is there a reason I am missing that you consider this author to be notable?

Here is some discussion on the reliable sources talk page about letters to the editor for reference:

Hi Eventhisacronym,
I agree with you after reviewing the link you provided in the discussion of using letters to the editor as reliable sources for Wikipedia. I reverted my edit, thus deleting the cited content from the letter to the editor from the Wall Street Journal. Thank you. Smobes (talk) 19:31, 4 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
