[edit]

Is this an article to show the list of characters that appear in the KotOR video games or the entire series, which would include the characters that appear in the comic series? If so, shouldn't they be included in the article too? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.156.11.4 (talk) 08:51, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Who is Gigin?

[edit]

"Gigin is a cyborg warrior from Knights of the Old Republic that was created by Darth Malak to kill Bastila when Malak descovered she survived the destruction of Taris. On Dantiooene, Darth Revan and Bastila were looking for the STAR MAP. But, Gigin appeared and fought vicously agianst the 2 jedi. Then, Gigin used his Cluster Eye Beam to knock down Revan. Then, Bastila cut off Gigin's claws and stabbed each on threw both of his hips. Then, Revan threw his Lightsaber at the cyborg's head. Then, Gigin's head fell off and Gigin fell to the ground in dafeat.

When looking for Bastila on Rakata Prime, Revan, Jolee, and Juhani were confronted by a modified Gigin. His changes were very interesting. His claws were replaced by 2 chainsaws, he had a armor caped head, and energy absorbing spikes on his back. The evil Cyborg began to suck out Revan's energy with his spines. But, Revan was to strong. He cut off Gigin's legs and one of his arms. Later, a dying Gigin dragged himself taward Revan with his one chainsaw hand. But, Revan pushed Gigin to a rock and shocked him with his Force lightning. Gigin then began to suffer threw a series of explosians. The evil cybrog was finaly finished."

I'm removing the above information because I've played the game way too many times and never encountered this. I'm sorry to have to remove something that someone appears to have put a lot of time into, but this doesn't make any sense and has no relevant hits on Google. If anyone knows what this anon was talking about, please speak up. Thanks -Xol 04:14, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Fanon, plain and simple. No such character exists in the game. --BinaryTed 15:03, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I thought so, thanks. -Xol 02:12, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I beat the game (and its sequal) more than 80 time on each side, and never encountered, heard, discussed, and furthormore SEEN this character. George Lucas frowns apon you! and on top of that, there are far too many gramatical errors! Red flag everyone: if it's not gramaticly correct, it's probably not worth reading... meaning no one cares enough about it to change it. lets make an example of this and leave it posted.

Why are some characters split and others are in this list?

[edit]

I see Mission Vao, Zaalbar and some other of the group here, while, for instance, Visas Marr and Juhani have their own entry. What is the reason behind this? Texcarson 19:05, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Because some characters have significant background and canonical material written about them to justify a separate entry. I would seriously question your merging of real articles into this collection of stubs... to the point of reverting them if there is no other opposition. Palaeologus 08:44, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

your merging them all into this one article makes the page to large, 80 kilobytes is way too far above the recommended --Ditre 04:10, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're right. It is too long. It's currently in the middle of being rewritten for brevity and encyclopedic style. Please don't hamper this effort by demerging the characters. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 07:09, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

the process of shrinking the specific character's sections should be done before merging, instead of it being rushed into with little to no effort --Ditre 15:58, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

its been over a month and no effort has been made... you obviously have no clue whats going on with the merging process that was done irresponsibly in haste "man in black". i've unmerged a few of the larger sections already... --Ditre 03:44, 5 April 2007 (UTC) i really disaprove of this "merging together". after all, this IS an encicolopediactic thingy, and should be written as such. it sort of defeats the purpose if someone wants to be specific and decides to look (example) revan. they'd look up revan right? not "kotor characters". although kotor characters without eachother defeats the purpose even more, it is obviose this is a bad idea. i agree with ditre. in fact, if i knew how to unmerge stuff, i would... --cobrakingofsw 5:10, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Atton Rand.jpg

[edit]

Image:Atton Rand.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 22:12, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

HK-47

[edit]

I think HK-47 should be merged here just for consistency, but of course it would need a major cut. — Texcarson 00:48, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I found this under HK-47 section which I have a problem with.

"There can also be a connection drawn with Agent 47 of the Hitman series, who shares the same model number as HK-47. Both characters were created and engineered by their masters to become ideal assassins. In addition, the original title for Hitman: Codename 47 was Hired Killer 47, further adding credence to this theory. In Hitman, the game revolved around eliminating 4 of the 5 original creators, and in Knights of the Old Republic, HK-47 tells stories of the demise of 4 of 5 original owners. The revelation of the true origins of both are only revealed upon meeting this 5th "mystery" owner/creator. Also, in Hitman, the final mission has the hitman destroying the lab he was created in along with all his other clones. In Knights of the Old Republic II, HK-47's personal quest is to find the lab churning out the "cheap copies of himself" and destroy it (though this was later cut).

The 1984 action movie The Terminator describes "Hunter-Killer" cyborgs, another possible source.

Anaheim Angels second baseman Howie Kendrick is often called HK-47, due to his initials and the fact his jersey number is 47."

This whole section is original research and speculation. I don't see any citation. I think it should be removed. Azn Clayjar (talk) 20:00, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Off the top of my head, HK-47's name came from a P&P game by one of the devs. As I recall the name came from a mixing of the HKs from Terminator and AK-47. But, I don't remember where I read this, or even know if it's actually accurate, if someone has info on this... (StarkeRealm (talk) 15:31, 8 June 2008 (UTC))[reply]

First edited article problems and comments

[edit]

This is my first wiki page that I have edited so I was hoping someone could look over what I added and make sure I made the correct edits and that the pictures I uploaded conformed to proper licensing practices here on Wiki.

Also Bao-Dur doesn't have a character box. I added one and it worked but it pushed Jolee way down and crossed the divider line and thus looked a little reckless. Could someone tell me why that happens and how to avoid it? Or could someone add the box and then I will edit it and add the image?

For complete sake the characters I edited were:

  • Visas Marr - Added image
  • Dark Nihilus - Added image
  • Darth Scion - Added image
  • Canderous Ordo - Added image from KotOR II (Canderous as Mandalore)

Tried to add Bao-Dur but encountered the above problems so I took out my changes and put the original back together.

I have recently been revisiting these games and would like to add character images for as many characters as I can since I have tons of saves in both KotOR games. Is that ok?

Thanks. - FomarsWiki (talk) 18:12, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that those images you have uploaded might be deleted in the near future because they don't qualify for "fair use" (too long to explain why). — Texcarson 19:54, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for creating the box. It still pushs Jolee down and past the dividing line but I guess that is just the way it is. I will research "fair use" and try to set the images right. Thanks - FomarsWiki (talk) 20:23, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There is this long page, Wikipedia:Non-free content, which explains what fair use is and how it should be applied. Apparently having more than one fair use image on a single page is a violation of copyright, so some of your images might be removed in the future. In fact there were images to represent all the characters but were deleted some months ago, i believe. — Texcarson 20:34, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the heads up. I removed all the images from the pages. I read the page you linked to as well as the copyright FAQ and several other documents pertaining to posting images. The whole thing seems greek to me. I can't seem to grasp why a free fan site or a business site (like GameSpy) devoted to a game can use these images by giving credit where credit is due (copyright info) but a free information site can't. I did see that I posted in the wrong format. I should have used PNG it seems. I looked at the Kreia inset image as well and tried to use that as a template. Despite not spelling out why my images are usable (the list towards the middle of the page) mine seemed to conform to the same standards as that one. I just thought it would be a nice addition. I will back off from it and hopefully find just a simple example. I must say it is a bummer though. I was pretty pumped about being able to add to something I like so much. Thanks for the quick replies. -- FomarsWiki (talk) 21:04, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You can also ask EEMIV, he's dealing with these pages as well, so he might know more. — Texcarson 21:12, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

From what i understand on that page, any image representing the characters should be at a "low resolution" (though it isn't written which resolution should be recommended), and there can't be more than a certain number of fair use images in a page (not more than 3-4 maybe?). I uploaded some screenshots for these characters months ago, but they were recently deleted, so i'm just giving you a possible hint to what may happen :) ... — Texcarson 21:17, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And it is appreciated. =) I saw that some character shots were removed but I thought it might be a case of just documenting them wrong so I tried mine as well. Looks like I read that wrong. I think part of my bewilderment is due to the fact I am brand new at this and find it to be overwhelming. I did post a message for EEMIV. Thanks for passing that name on. -- FomarsWiki (talk) 21:36, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

The image Image:Carth model.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

Junhani

[edit]

Under Junhani's section, she is described as being an additional love interest to the female Revan. Is this supposed to read male? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jackendrick (talkcontribs) 17:36, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, she's a lesbian. —Preceding unsigned comment added by The Bloody Rose (talkcontribs) 03:21, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disciple

[edit]

I've never encountered a Mical Disciple, and the section is not very detailed, so I'm suspicious that it's false. Could anyone confirm anything or provide citations? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jackendrick (talkcontribs) 17:40, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Disciple exists in KOTOR II. You meet him deep in the ruins of the Jedi Council's building on Dantooine. If your character is female, he will join your party. I played the game and found him there and he joined my team. He is in what was the library for the Jedi Council. You just have to search each room in the ruins to find him or you'll miss him. He was a useful character. Azn Clayjar (talk) 16:00, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I applaud EEMIV for merging all the seperate entries for all the characters...

[edit]

...and deleting the majority of the content to form this steaming pile of trash you call an "article". Congrats. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.18.191.213 (talk) 02:58, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Revamp

[edit]

I'm working on amalgamating this and all the other god-awful lists at Category:Lists_of_Star_Wars_characters to remove all the ORish and arbitrary topics (i.e. what makes a character a "villain"? what if he/she later is "good"?) and repetition (e.g. Leia shows up on several of them). Once I've squished them together, they can be broken up just alphabetically like the slightly-less-crappy Star Trek character lists. I've copy-and-pasted these lists as of ~11:30EST 3 Oct -- if you make any additions to this list, I'll try to be sure to maintain them in the reworked version, but please be mindful that something might accidentally be overlooked. Thanks! --EEMIV (talk) 15:40, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect

[edit]

I plan on Monday to replace the current content of List of Star Wars characters with the material at User:EEMIV/StarWarsCharacters, and then to redirect this page to that updated list. Much of the content on this page will go away -- for the better. Wikipedia is an indiscriminate collection of information, even on its list pages, and many of the entries were are truly insignificant characters. If you take exception to this plan, please say so here. --EEMIV (talk) 11:20, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
