Updates to the article

[edit]

Hi all, I'd like to recommend some updates to this article.

First, please add that, in a recent TED Talk, Lubetzky announced the Builders Movement, an initiative with Liev Schreiber, Katie Couric, and Lonnie Ali to encourage people to work together and reduce polarization.[1] [2]  Done — Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 18:03, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Next, I noticed that an anonymous IP recently added content to this page based on a Washington Post article. I want to point out that, as this is only based on one source, the detail in this article is an example of WP:Undue Weight and WP:Coatrack. I offer the following summarized version of the article below, to replace the existing mention on the page. Additionally, this was added to the article in two sections. I do not believe that it belongs in the Philanthropy section, and request that it be removed from there entirely:

In May 2024, the Washington Post reported that Lubetzky was a member of a WhatsApp group of business leaders working to shape US public opinion about the Israel-Hamas war following the 7 October attacks against Israel. The group also organized a Zoom meeting with New York City Mayor Eric Adams after he released a statement condemning the antisemitism on Columbia University's campus[3], where they discussed making political donations to Adams.[4]  Done — Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 18:03, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Birdhouse123: When you make an edit request, you need to state where in the article you think the material should be added. I personally don't see a problem with what the IP added: The Washington Post is a reliable source and there is no requirement for multiple sources. It's not coatracking, which implies putting two unrelated topics of the same name into one article, rather than disambiguating them, and weight is something that would need a broader discussion with more editors involved. Right now, with ongoing activity in the topic, I see no problem with inclusion: in a year, perhaps a rear-mirror view would suggest a reducing it to a more concise summary, but as it is now, I don't see that it needs urgent attention for either of the reasons given. I do agree that the title of the philanthropy section was too narrow, and I made a new section for the several items that fall under advocacy and influence activities. Hi Skyerise, thank you for looking over my request. I believe the Builders Movement material should be included in your recently-added "Involvement in advocacy and influence" section.
According to both WP:COATRACK and WP:UNDUE the current language regarding the WhatsApp group is inappropriate, especially for a WP:BLP- the content clearly strays to a tangential subject and promotes a particular bias. In addition, the story, while reported in a reliable source, wasn't covered in other publications, and three full paragraphs in two separate sections seems excessive and imbalanced. The same IP also added this exact language to several other Wikipedia articles, which further proves that the content is general and not directly relevant or tailored to any BLP, let alone this one. Thanks again for looking into this. Birdhouse123 (talk) 13:14, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Birdhouse123: well, you're known as having a conflict of interest here, so no, I still don't see a problem. A single reliable source is sufficient. Skyerise (talk) 20:48, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Builders Movement

[edit]

I'd like to request to move Builders Movement information from the Business career section to the Philanthropy and advocacy initiatives section. This reference calls the organization a "nonprofit global initiative." I'm reaching out to Grand'mere Eugene who was so helpful in adding the Movement to the page. Thank you!
