His myspace profile says he's heterosexual. Not good enough for me, but it's all I have to go on. :) — [ ric | opiaterein ] — 00:34, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copy-paste?

[edit]

It seems the majority of the second paragraph is exactly copied from his MySpace O_o — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.9.121.137 (talkcontribs) 23:08, 24 May 2007

Much of the information on the pages of all O-Zone related articles appears to contain much copied-and-pasted (possibly copyrighted) information! I am currently trying to fix this, rewriting the offending article(s). --Shruti14 t c s 02:15, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dan Balan was also part of the gothic/doom band Inferialis before he started O-Zone and Crazy Loop.He played the vocals for Inferialis..proof here ---------> Dan Balan at Encyclopedia Metallum 72.178.172.124 (talk) 07:35, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Before entering the pop world, Dan enjoyed his first band experience - he formed a goth-doom metal band called Inferialis in 1997. He was the keyboard player and songwriter of this project. Inferialis had a large fan base in the underground Moldovian scene, despite never having an official release." from http://www.dan-balan.com/index.php?navigation=biography —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.9.13.134 (talk) 14:47, 27 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move

[edit]
The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

No consensus to move. Vegaswikian (talk) 01:55, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dan BălanDan Balan — While his last name is indeed Bălan, this artist is far more commonly referred to by his stage name of "Dan Balan" in print rather than "Dan Bălan", and WP:COMMONNAME states that the most common name in English should be used for article titles. "Balan" is used over "Bălan" on his official websites as well as online profiles, and searching for "Dan Bălan" on Google shows that websites overwhelmingly use "Balan", without the accented a. Sorafune +1 21:43, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose What's the point? Dan Balan is already a redirect to this page, so it's not as if anyone is going to have difficulty finding it. This rather smacks of all those proposals to remove diacritics from all those hockey players from Eastern Europe playing in the United States. Skinsmoke (talk) 11:25, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's actually not like the proposals to remove diacritics from the hockey players' names. Often the evidence for a diacriticless spelling is from rosters that strip diacritics indiscriminately, or from news reports from publications that likewise strip diacritics indiscriminately. This tells us nothing about the spelling of the particular individual's name. In Balan's case, however, there is an official website by and for the particular individual. --Atemperman (talk) 23:00, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, the point is that there's his definite real name Bălan and his definite stage name Balan, and internationally, he's far more commonly known as Dan Balan. Sorafune +1 23:31, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Google hits are unreliable for modified characters. The fact that his official websites use the diacriticless version weighs in favor of moving the page. I think there was a similar discussion about Roman Polanski (Polański in Polish) recently. In the case of Polanski, the fact that other reference works omit the diacritic is, to my mind, especially decisive evidence, considering that these same reference works do not simply indiscriminately strip any and all diacritics nor do they use diacritics any time they are use in their native languages (like in Spanish México). Balan doesn't have a Britannica entry, but on balance, if someone wants to bother to move the page, I say go for it. --Atemperman (talk) 23:00, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strongly oppose A similar case is the article about Nadia Comăneci, whose name is known in America as Comaneci(Conttest (talk) 11:01, 28 April 2010 (UTC))[reply]

Dan BălanDan Balan – The artist Dan Balan is not recognized by the spelling of his last name Bălan which includes a Moldavian character, as noted on the artist official website[1]. At the request of the Artist and his management his page should be moved to the current re-direct page of Dan Balan while the current page Dan Bălan be used as a redirect – Willflash15 (talk) 20:57, 12 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This is a contested technical request (permalink). Prisencolinensinainciusol (talk) 21:58, 12 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
If this move is to be done solely because of a request from Dan Balan and his management team and for no other reason, then I don't think this can be accommodated because of Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy.--Prisencolinensinainciusol (talk) 21:58, 12 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - It looks like a prior request for the same move in 2010 was not successful. In general I am fine with keeping the diacritic if the artist actually spells his name that way in English and if reliable sources use that spelling. However the singer writes his name without the accent in the USA and UK. A Google search shows the unaccented version leading by about 2:1 in English. (For example, search for 'dan balan -bălan'). He does use the accent in certain countries such as Moldova and Romania, but not in the USA. EdJohnston (talk) 03:57, 13 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per WP:COMMONNAME and WP:UE Red Slash 22:03, 14 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong Oppose - why? What is the difference between this Moldovan bio and all the other Moldovan bios on en.wp? As it stands this proposal is a serious contravention of en.wikipedia practice in two areas. First the obvious one - Mihai Bălan his father is spelled fully and we don't apply WP:COMMONNAME and WP:UE to font issues, User:Red Slash has again misread and miscited the guideline. But the more important contravention is the proposal. Of course his management team don't want to advertise the fact that he's Moldovan, and removing the Moldovan-ness of his name will no doubt increase his marketability among xenophobic music purchasers, but it isn't Wikipedia's job to de-Moldovanize or de-Frenchize or de-anyothernationalityize artists to increase their marketability. He's a Moldavan, this is a Moldavan bio, and the lead MUST follow WP:FULLNAME. In ictu oculi (talk) 06:40, 15 June 2015 (UTC)§§§§§§§§§[reply]

Unnecessary Information

[edit]

I feel that this "Dan Bălan's grandfather on maternal line, Boris Vasiliev, in childhood was deported in Siberia.[12][13][14]" is not really needed in the article since it has no connection to Balan. This did not affect him directly. Not every detail about every family member is written in a Wikipedia article. This seems like Wikipedia Namechecking. I tried removing the information on 9 July, but it was put back, so I thought I would discuss it here. Moreover, I am working on fixing and tidying up the article. If someone helps I'd be really thankful. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Derek Carlo-Sciaca (talkcontribs) 16:23, 31 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
