– Region is not part of the proper name of regions of Senegal, and is typically lowercase in sources. Dicklyon (talk) 07:38, 11 December 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 15:06, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- They aren't like Orange County or New York City? Largoplazo (talk) 13:47, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
- No, they're not. Most of the articles include sentences starting like "The Dakar region" or "Kolda is a region", because region is not part of their name. You can check a few in book search and see that they're often lowercase in sources. Or check some n-grams. Dicklyon (talk) 16:00, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
- How about the departments like Thiès Department? Largoplazo (talk) 16:46, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
- I haven't looked into those yet. What are you seeing? Dicklyon (talk) 17:51, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
- You can see it right there in my question: "Department" is capitalized. Same issue as you've raised here for "Region", it seems to me, so I figured you might want to add the Senegalese department articles to your nomination. Largoplazo (talk) 13:55, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
- Yes indeed I might. But I haven't looked into them yet. Taking reasonable size steps usually works better for me than trying to fix everything at once. Dicklyon (talk) 19:55, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
- And I meant what are you seeing in sources, not what are you seeing in our titles. Dicklyon (talk) 01:18, 14 December 2024 (UTC)

- Alternative If "region" isn't part of their names, then the move ought to be "X Region" → "X" or, if "X" is already an article (because it's the name of a city, for example), then "X (region)"? Compare two overwhelmingly opposed requests to move Washington (state) to Washington state: Talk:Washington (state)#Requested move 20 May 2022 and Talk:Washington (state)#Requested move 19 August 2024. Largoplazo (talk) 17:07, 15 December 2024
- I think natural disambiguation is better than parenthetical here. These are more often called "X region" than just "X", not so parallel to the Washington case. We have done similarly with numerous provinces, districts, regions, subregions, etc. of lots of countries in recent years. Dicklyon (talk) 21:32, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- Support Per WP:NCCAPS and MOS:CAPS. I have confirmed usage for a sample of these against ngrams, Google Scholar and Google books. These are not consistently capped in sources and should not be capped here. Oppose alternative as the title without parentheses is more WP:NATURAL. Cinderella157 (talk) 01:19, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
