Draft to article
[edit]Hey can we change it from draft to an article? Because I guess it is better to make it as an article. Beraniladri19🌀🌀 (talk) 04:44, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
- Support moved to article because this is already now HurricaneEdgar talk 05:29, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
- @HurricaneEdgar: Actually since there's more citation, it is more or less like an article that's why Beraniladri19🌀🌀 (talk) 06:39, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
Potential Vandalism
[edit]This IP user 2409:4060:2103:1F40:862:CD81:59AD:7337 has been possibly using multiple IPs to place unsourced information in the meteorological history section. When I reverted it and explained why he/she/they continued to add it back in without a source. So can we make this page semi-protected? Thank you! Edits of Hurricaneboy23, question about citation being needed
[edit]@Hurricaneboy23
The citation is already given. The Sri Lanka Disaster Management Centre Situation Report is in the link. The data tables are in the .pdf report, which is already in the citation. Please download and check.
Also I am a bit curious to know why the words 'said' and 'affected' were edited out and replaced with to 'stated' and 'impacted'. Are 'said' and 'affected' banned words on wikipedia?
The reason the people were affected is the cyclone, where several areas were inundated with storm surges, and thousands were evacuated beforehand. The news reports are on google and mentioned elsewhere on the page by other contributors. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kuthroo (talk • contribs) 20:02, 4 December 2020 (UTC) Kuthroo (talk) 00:15, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
Edits of Hurricaneboy23
[edit]Sorry forgot to sign. The casualty data questioned by Hurricaneboy23 is from the situation report of Sri Lanka's Disaster Management Centre report of 1800hours, December 04 2020 which is already cited. For the record, the total affected is 68,640 persons from 20,717 families. 57 houses have been fully damaged and 2,753 houses are partially damaged, according to the DMC report. --Kuthroo (talk) 00:38, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
Sustained winds
[edit]How can the 3-minute sustained winds be more than the 1-minute sustained winds? 2003 LN6 (talk) 02:13, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
- @2003 LN6:It just a mistake, it was 85 km/h one sustained winds Beraniladri19🌀🌀 (talk) 03:57, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
- @2003 LN6 and Beraniladri19: Since the IMD is a different agency than the JTWC, I think it’s possible the JTWC could hypothetically analyze a storm to be weaker than what the IMD says. -Shift674-🌀 contribs 04:33, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
- Shift674, How JTWC hypothetically claims that it is stronger than what IMD has estimated?? Beraniladri19 🌀🌀 06:58, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Beraniladri19: Since the IMD and JTWC are separate agencies, they may not agree on the intensity estimate of certain storms, meaning that the IMD may think a storm is stronger than what the JTWC thinks. This may not be the case with this storm, but I just wanted to bring it up. -Shift674-🌀 contribs 13:34, 18 January 2021 (UTC)

@Shift674: That everyone knows for eg :- Cyclone Fani, Gati, 2000 South India Cyclone, Phailin and many more... Beraniladri19 🌀🌀 13:50, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Beraniladri19: Ah, what I meant to say was the IMD could analyze a storm to be stronger than what the JTWC thinks. -Shift674-🌀 contribs 18:05, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
