The papers cited in [5] and [6] are incorrect for the context they appear. "On the Generation of Oriented Matroids" does not rule out any manifolds as solutions, only limiting the amount of symmetry such a polyhedron could have. And "Polyhedral surfaces of high genus" only disproves manifold 54, one of only 59 possible manifolds. The correct paper to cite here is this one: "Nonrealizable Minimal Vertex Triangulations of Surfaces" from 2010. https://arxiv.org/abs/0801.2582 This paper is the first to prove such an embedding is impossible for all 59 manifolds.
