Hi! I'm opening a Good Article Nomination review. Hoping to complete the review over the next couple of days. I'll be using the template below. Thanks! Ganesha811 (talk) 14:41, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Zin Win Hlaing, hi! Overall, the article is in pretty good shape, and I think we can definitely bring it to Good Article status together. Other than a few prose things, the main obstacle is 3a - breadth. Have a look at my comments there and let me know what you think. If the information is available and you'll have time to add content over the next few days, that's great. If it'll take a little longer, let me know and I can put the review on a hold for a week or two to give you time to improve the article, and then I'll return to re-review. Ganesha811 (talk) 13:54, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. But I suppose I'll need to take a bit longer time; Burma's COVID situation is getting worse day by day, and I'm stressed these days. Zin Win Hlaing (talk) 14:02, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Zin Win Hlaing, I understand. I'll put the nomination on hold for two weeks to start, and check in again then. Stay safe and I'll see you in 14 days! Ganesha811 (talk) 15:54, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ganesha811, I think I have fixed some issues. Pls check. Thanks. Zin Win Hlaing (talk) 04:12, 16 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ganesha811, I've all done. Zin Win Hlaing (talk) 07:18, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Zin Win Hlaing thank you - this now passes GA status. Congrats to you and to anyone else who worked on it! Ganesha811 (talk) 13:49, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

1. Well-written:
1a. the prose is clear, concise, and understandable to an appropriately broad audience; spelling and grammar are correct.
  • The prose is generally very good. I will do any tiny tweaks needed myself to save us trouble, but a few bigger things:
  • Wherever there is Burmese text, such as ပန္နက်ချ, please provide a transliteration as well as a translation. You've already done this most places but there are a couple missing, so have a scan through and add where neeeded.
  • Is there a reason - religious, allegorical, secular - that the middle part of the path was shaded with gold to block sunlight? The existing sentence raises that question in the mind of the reader but doesn't answer it.
The cited chronicle did not mention any specific reason but not to fall sunlight on the path. Zin Win Hlaing (talk) 09:38, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • I think that given the apparent importance of Punna both to the ceremony and to the article, it would be worth giving a sentence in the lead or the first time they are mentioned in the body, to explaining what a Brahmin is in Burmese context. An adaptation of the paragraph at the Wikilink would be great.
  • The same goes for 'sayadaw', another clearly important term that should have a little more explanation the first time it is used.
Hope this two (for 'Sayadaw' and 'Punna') were solved now. Zin Win Hlaing (talk) 09:38, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • In 'Commemorations', is "the edict" the one that released prisoners and whatnot? Or is it a separate thing? This isn't clear.
  • I think prose issues have now been addressed. I'll do a final check, but provisional pass.
  • Pass on prose.
1b. it complies with the Manual of Style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation.
  • Pass, no issues.
2. Verifiable with no original research:
2a. it contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline.
  • No uncited passages, references look good and correspond to the information given.
2b. reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose).
  • All sources appear reliable. Assume good faith for Burmese and French language sources which I cannot read.
  • One question: WP:SCHOLARSHIP says that theses should be used with caution, and are best when they have been published, peer-reviewed in some other way, or are cited in literature. Is that the case for Raymond's work?
2c. it contains no original research.
  • Pass, no issues here.
2d. it contains no copyright violations or plagiarism.
  • Pass. No copyright violations found by Earwig tool or manual spot check.
3. Broad in its coverage:
3a. it addresses the main aspects of the topic.

This article, while fascinating and well-written, is missing a little bit of context, in two ways.

First of all, it would be good to have a little bit of background (maybe just a few sentences) on why Pagan Min abicated, the political situation in the Konbaung Kingdom at the time, etc.

Secondly, to the non-Burmese reader, like me, I don't know if any of these ceremonies and procedures were different from past coronations, or if they were all handed down from time immemorial. Was anything changed from past coronations? How did people react? Was the event treated as a waste of money, or an uplifting, unifying moment for the dynasty - or something else? Did any foreign diplomats attend? What was the reaction abroad? Etc. If details like this are just not available, I understand, but I think it would add a lot to the article to incorporate some material along these lines.

For 'reaction', nothing is mentioned in Konbaung Set Yazawin. For 'foreign diplomats', there were just two embassies– British and French– at that time, but they were not in the list of attendees since it allowed to attend the royal family and their descendents, ministers, and staffs only. I will add the situation later. Zin Win Hlaing (talk) 14:47, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Have you added everything you hope to, or is there more to come? I think any information you can find about domestic reaction would be good to add, but I understand there is little information available about the foreign reaction.
Yeah, that's all I could find. (At that time, the public will not dare to criticize or something like that to the king, or they will be killed.)
Weak pass on breadth - I wish there was more content to add, but assume good faith that there is not or the information is inaccessible in reliable sources.
3b. it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style).
  • Pass, level of detail is reasonable.
4. Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each.
  • Pass, no issues with neutrality.
5. Stable: it does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute.
  • Pass. No edit wars, no rapid expansion.
6. Illustrated, if possible, by media such as images, video, or audio:
6a. media are tagged with their copyright statuses, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content.
  • File:Konbaung Dynasty Abhiseka.jpg should have a US public domain tag.
    • I have changed its licence to PD-old-100-expired. Zin Win Hlaing (talk) 07:19, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
      • Looks good. The image of King Mindon that you added also needs a US public domain tag. Other than that we should be good, so AGF that you will add it, pass on this.
6b. media are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions.
  • The caption on the infobox image is a little unclear - does it depict the actual coronation, or another occasion?
  • Are there no other images that could be added to illustrate the article? A map of the Konbaung Kingdom at the time? An image of Min or Dewi? An image of the palace? Would be good to add a couple where possible.
7. Overall assessment.
