Merge Foundation stone and Cornerstone
Is there any difference between these two articles? If not, they should be merged. I'm indifferent as to which could take the titular role. Vectro 05:34, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

From a strict point of view, they are not the same thing. However, as Peter, the 'foundation stone' was seen as the substitute of Christ, the 'cornerstone', these two concepts got mixed. The foundation stone is the first stone to be laid, usually in the corner of a building. The cornerstone (caput anguli) was 'the stone which the builders rejected'. The real meaning of cornerstone here is thus not the first stone to be laid, but the stone which has not yet found its place in the construction, being only used at the end to crown off the (center of the) dome of the building, which is exactly where we find the image of Christ Pantocrator in many Catholic and Orthodox churches. This 'central' meaning of the cornerstone is also found in Ephesians 2:19-21 "19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. 21 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord.". This joining together makes more sense as a central capstone than as one of the four corners of a building
Foundation stone
Traditions such as that of the foundation stone rite and associated sacrifices and turning of soil or sod as a placation and votive offering to spirits of place, genius loci and preparation of a locality and fertility rite is a human cultural universal.[B9_hummingbird_hovering] 09:08, 30 January 2007 (UTC). LDS Church
This article is missing information about the emphasis the LDS Church places on the cornerstone ceremony for new temples (including rebuilt & those that have gone thru major reconstruction), as well as the former prominence of this ceremony as part of dedicating meetinghouses & tabernacles. I do not know if these practices extend to the other denominations in the Latter Day Saint movement, but if so, & wp:RS can be found, than these should be included too. -- 208.81.184.4 (talk) 18:18, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
Which corner of a building?
Is the cornerstone placed at any corner? The only present mention of this question is in the Freemasonry section (north east corner), is this a continued tradition today?

Cornerstone → Cornerstone (ceremonial masonry stone)? – there are so many usages of the name "Cornerstone" meanwhile (PC game, Bandnames, Churches, Festivals, etc.), the ceremonial masonry stone is ONE of the usages, I'd found it better, if someone search for "Cornerstone" at Wikipedia, to open the disambiguation-page (named as "Cornerstone" and not one particularly usage of the name Morrissey1976 (talk) 07:20, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
- Comment this is a malformed multimove request, there is a move request at Talk:Cornerstone (disambiguation) that is dependent on this one. If this fails, then that one must automatically fail -- 67.70.32.190 (talk) 10:28, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
