Playable only with active internet connection

[edit]

This is not true, I do own the game and if you do not have an active internet connection, the game will search for the DVD and you can then play offline. However, if you have an active internet connection, the game automatically searches for it and asks for a sign up to relic online, with no option to play offline. So this should be changed since it is possible to play it without having to sign up or being online. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 139.18.149.7 (talk) 16:04, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Germans

[edit]

"Tank Hunters: Allows the player to deploy the Jagdpanther and Hetzer tanks, as well as improve infantry's ability to detect and combat enemy tanks"

This seems like a wierd statement to me, because it's not hard at all to detect tanks. They're big and loud. I'm not sure if I can believe that it's an actual special ability for the Germans...

It actually IS a special ability. It just means that tanks are displayed on the map even though they are within the fog of war. If you know from where they're coming, you can counter them much better ;) Kalveron 17:47, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dynamic Weather Effects system

[edit]

I was thinking about removing the words "Although Relic had initially indicated otherwise" from the last line of this paragraph. Can anyone find sources which actually indicate this statement was made? I have looked at a two major game preview websites (IGN, Gamespot)as well as the official CoH website, and can find no evidence of this claim. I do however, seem to remember the preview box in EB games mentioning something along the lines of 'Infantry will become bogged down in heavy rain' but I cannot find any scans of the box. Anyway, I'll leave it for someone else to remove or cite (for the moment). -- Zoidenberger 03:23, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The weather is mentioned here : http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?pager.offset=1&cId=3159646. Iam not sure if the weather would be seen in future patch and the two games modes which was not available in retail ver. --SkyWalker 04:08, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the info SkyWalker, I'll get working on citing that in the article. -- Zoidenberger 05:11, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have just read the article you posted and it does not appear to include any claims that the weather would affect tactical aspects of the game. I have decided to remove the section "Although Relic had initially indicated otherwise" for the moment, and will continue the search for a reference to this claim. -- Zoidenberger 05:45, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I dont remember i do seeing it somewhere on previews. Where it says that weather affects gameplays such has armour slowing down when it rains, infantry has less LOS and their uniforms would get dirty. There are many more i read that. Not sure where i read that. --SkyWalker 06:19, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think i found it. Here is the interview with Josh Mosqueira read the second page and you will find the weather changes.

GS: Another of the new features is the idea that weather can affect the battlefield. How? And is this a feature that could get rolled into the existing game via a patch or update?

JM: First, weather features prominently in the single-player game. Rain obscures infantry and mud slows tanks and vehicles down. The intent is to make weather an aspect of Opposing Fronts' "real battlefields."

For multiplayer, this means that players will be able to choose the time of day and weather conditions for their games. We're still determining the exact effect of weather in multiplayer, but rest assured it will add a new element to Opposing Fronts' already intense multiplayer games.

Weather will be added to the original COH via a patch.

And the game modes. Which is not available at retail.

GS: We love multiplayer Company of Heroes, and the thought of new multiplayer modes is pretty exciting. What can you reveal about the modes or any other multiplayer improvements and enhancements?

JM: Relic Online is going through a massive overhaul. Again, we've been listening to our community and are trying to incorporate as many of their suggestions as we can. Arranged team auto-matching, observe mode, and better stat tracking are some of the features we'll be adding to both Company of Heroes and Opposing Fronts.

In terms of multiplayer modes, we're still keeping those secret for now.

That would help. :) --SkyWalker 06:29, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot mate! I've updated the DWE section again, this time with the reference included. -- Zoidenberger 08:20, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merge the 'New Single-Player Campaign' section with the 'Storyline' section.

[edit]

Haven't yet thought about how to go about doing this, but I think its a good idea. -- Zoidenberger 13:59, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

why dont the germans actually get proper tanks

[edit]

i,e. the panzer 3, tiger etc —Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.45.157.194 (talk) 04:04, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

They are designed to fight with speed, tanks in the game will slow them down both in combat and in teching. Jim101 (talk) 01:28, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Historical innaccuracies in regards to the naming of the 'royal commandos'

[edit]

When i played the game, i was annoyed to find that relic (who have until this point been fairly careful with their research) have simply named the regiment which resembles the SAS / Parachute regiment 'royal commandos'. My dad, an ex-royal marine was also slightly miffed at this. Often the media uses the term commando to mean any kind special forces, without realizing that it specifically relates to the Boer fighters of the Boer war and the British maritime raiding parties which adopted its name. The royal marine commandos wore green berets and were never used in conjunction with gliders. Neither the Parachute regiment nor the SAS have ever been commonly called 'royal'. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.148.142.131 (talk) 02:54, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rather than assuming that Relic have deliberately made an error, perhaps it was a honest mistake? Would you mind if I reworded the section slightly to a more neutral tone, fixed the Royal Marine link and added your comment about the berets? Oni no Akuma (talk) 13:23, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Oni no Akuma (talk) 12:16, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The SAS actually wear a beige beret not red, although many of them may be drawn from the paras. Call me pedantic but there you go.--El Rog 12:05, 3 January 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rogerer (talkcontribs)
If you think it's incorrect, then please alter it. Perhaps remove the reference to the SAS and just leave it as the Paras, or do SAS soldiers who were drawn from the Paras still retain their original cap badge and uniform? Oni no Akuma (talk) 12:52, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The modern SAS wear a beige beret, but during the war they were attached to the British airborne army who wore red. (122.148.142.131 (talk) 14:59, 6 February 2008 (UTC))[reply]

All paratroopers and glider troopers were commando-trained, and were simply the airborne part of the Army Commandos. Commandos weren't just Royal Marines in the Second World War - each branch of the British Armed Forces had their own commando units, but it is only the Royal Marines and parts of specialised army regiments such as the Royal Engineers who retain the right to use the formal use of 'Commando'. However, yes, 'Royal Commandos' is incorrectly named, simply due to the fact such a branch never existed. --SaintDaveUK (talk) 17:11, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
