Only John Hancock and Charles Thomson signed the Declaration of Independence on 7/4/1776
[edit]I added... A strong argument can be made that John Hancock was the only representative of Congress that signed the fair copy of the Declaration on 7/4 with Secretary of Congress Charles Thomson attesting it, thus explaining why these two names appear on the bottom of the 200 Dunlap broadsides. 2601:589:4705:C7C0:1C96:2508:525A:2F69 (talk) 16:43, 31 December 2015 (UTC)
- And I removed it as unsourced. IP also thinks Moses was Prince of Egypt. Doug Weller talk 17:21, 31 December 2015 (UTC)
Sentence fragment
[edit]"Just one signature as attested by Secretary Charles Thomson." Maybe "as" is supposed to be "was"? It's hard to tell. M-1 (talk) 20:24, 13 January 2016 (UTC)
- If someone can't, or won't explain the above questioned sentence, Just one signature as attested by Secretary Charles Thomson., I am going to remove it. The sentence does not make sense. It must be part of another sentence so certainly fragmented, and is out of context, as it makes no sense at all. It is somewhat amazing this has not been addressed before now. Concerning The Committee
[edit]Stating that Benjamin Franklin was "one of the most famous founding fathers" seems superfluous. Stating that Roger Sherman was the "only person to sign all four documents.." is immediately stated in the link to Roger Sherman and therefore seems unnecessary to put here. It closely paraphrases as well. Ron Q Craig (talk) 20:41, 6 September 2017 (UTC)
Concerning The First Draft
[edit]The first sentence begins with "Certainly". The word does not belong in the context of the sentence.Ron Q Craig (talk) 20:48, 6 September 2017 (UTC)
Concerning Last Minute Arguments
[edit]There seem to be a lack of proper citations to substantiate the information given.Ron Q Craig (talk) 20:52, 6 September 2017 (UTC)
Concerning The Dunlap Broadside
[edit]The entire paragraph under this subheading should be re-worked, if not removed altogether. It is difficult to understand and provides no detailed information.Ron Q Craig (talk) 20:56, 6 September 2017 (UTC)
Close up of the pediment
[edit]Can someone more tech knowledgeable than myself grab and upload a close-up of the pediment sculpture from this image to replace the ground level image now on the page? Thanks. Randy Kryn (talk) 16:55, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
- Done. Conveniently enough, someone has already taken and uploaded this closeup to Commons, which I've added to the article. Tyrol5 [Talk] 17:26, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks Tyrol5, good find. I've added it to the Jefferson Memorial page and the sculptor's page. Committee of Five rules (literally)! Randy Kryn (talk) 19:28, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
