Ohio Xoggz → Columbus Xoggz – It seems that Columbus Xoggz is the more enduring name for this team. It was used for the first two of its three seasons of existence. Even in 1996 and 1997, after they had changed their name to Ohio Xoggz, the name Columbus Xoggz was sometimes used (example 1, example 2). It's also used in this 2022 The18 piece. Oppose - we generally use the final name of the club for defunct clubs, not previous name, and I see no reason to depart from that. Giant Snowman 10:24, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
We have departed from this rule in cases where an earlier name is much more well-known, such as with the Harrisburg City Islanders. That also seems to be the case for the Xoggz; in my digging in newspaper archives, it seems that the name "Ohio Xoggz" hasn't seen much use since 1996. In fact, it wasn't even used in the AP article about the team's shutdown in February 1997; they used "Columbus Xoggz". IagoQnsi (talk) 19:50, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

In NewsBank, there are 28 results for "Ohio Xoggz" in 1996 and 1997 and 36 for "Columbus Xoggz". Notably, The Columbus Dispatch only ever used the latter styling, while a variety of out-of-state publications used the "Ohio" moniker in match reports and the like. This case reminds me of some broadcasting articles I handle; while we generally prefer final call sign used, there are notability questions that sometimes dictate another title (e.g. KTTL, whose last call sign was KMCS but similarly was called KTTL in several national articles on its death).
