[edit]A cobweb is a collection of dust particles. A spider web is spun by the spider.

- wooooo thats not true. Hear me out!!!! I stayed in a room for 3 years straight and recorded all of the activity that took place in that room. After a year of staying in that room I noticed several cobwebs in the corner of the room, which is quite strange because there was never any evidence of spiders. Proving that cobwebs don't come from spiders. Although I did find evidence of gerbils, leading to the hypothesis that gerbils are magical creatures that can do anything that they want to do.
- A cobweb in my dialect may be occupied or abandoned by its creator. Daddy longlegs spiders and red back spiders are particular often still in residence in Sydney where I live. Andrewa (talk) 12:01, 17 December 2012 (UTC)
Cobweb is a Cat !!!!!!!!!!
Cobwebs are not produced by spiders. However, There is a Cat living in Warrington, Cheshire called 'Cobweb' and I think that it's him that produces all the webs —Preceding unsigned comment added by Diver1 (talk • contribs) 20:08, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
An Incorrect Author Citing
[edit]If you scroll down to the uses of the word "cobweb" in literature, you'll find the short story collection "Cobwebs and Whispers" attributed to Jeffrey Thomas. This needs correction; this book was written by his brother, Scott Thomas. Please see: Thomas, S. (2001). Cobwebs and Whispers. Delirium Books. ISBN 1-929653-13-1. I'd be glad to do this edit myself, except that it looks like it comes under the category of a major one, and Wiki's guide to editing says I should discuss such an edit first on the article's talk page. I've only ever done one edit before, a pretty minor one. Don't want to overstep my boundaries. Scavenger Mystic (talk) 04:00, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
- That's what our article at Jeffrey Thomas (writer) says too. We don't yet have an article at Scott Thomas (writer) or Cobwebs and Whispers. The first has a few links [1] so I'll create a redirect for it. The second is only linked to from Scott_Thomas_(writer) [2] but a redirect won't hurt. But, the relevant line in this DAB has been deleted, and doesn't seem all that necessary. Andrewa (talk) 16:57, 17 December 2012 (UTC)
I just want to know the origin of the word. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.235.118.180 (talk) 11:27, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
- See [3]: The middle english word for a spider was "coppe". Cobweb derives from middle english "coppeweb" = spider's web. Andrewa (talk) 11:51, 17 December 2012 (UTC)

Cobweb → Cobweb (disambiguation) – I contend that the primary topic for this term is spider web, and that "cobweb" should redirect there. All of the other meanings on this page are either partial title matches or minor uses that refer in some sense to a spider web. bd2412 T 22:28, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
- Support; seems like common sense. Powers T 02:57, 10 December 2012 (UTC)
- Support, with the addition of an appropriate "for other uses" hatnote to Spider web. Deor (talk) 03:19, 10 December 2012 (UTC)
