Why was the following taken out? Does no-one else find it an interesting piece of trivia?

"The estimated population of the town at the 2002 census was 1,947. Unusually for a town in the Republic Protestants outnumber Roman Catholics in Clones (albeit by a small margin) Its the largest town in the Republic of Ireland which still has a Protestant majority".

Interesting enough. If you can verify it, then feel free to add it to the article again Downunda 22:55, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Town location on the County map

[edit]

The pin point of Clones town on the County Monaghan map is in an incorrect location, if anyone knows how to fix this then please do. Curran1980 16:10, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is the town Clones part of the Parish of Clones?

[edit]

I had previously written an article on the Parish of Clones (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Clones,_County_Fermanagh) and I'm not sure if Clones is part of the Parish. If so i will have to add it to the page which already exists (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Clones) Could anyone help me? --DeclanDeclan (talk) 01:11, 20 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I can confirm that Clones town is located in the Civil Parish of Clones, Monaghan, Diocese of Clogher: the Catholic church is the Sacred Heart Church. This website will verify what I have just said and it may be useful to you: (https://www.johngrenham.com/c_parish/c_parish_main.php?civilparishid=1953&civilparish=Clones&county=Monaghan) HughPatrick23 (talk) 12:39, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 16 December 2016

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: pages moved. I have redirected Clones and Clones (disambiguation) to Clone as all entries on Clones (disambiguation) were already in Clone. (non-admin closure)MRD2014 (talkcontribs) 19:05, 23 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

WP:SURPRISE! The WP:PRIMARYTOPIC of "Clones" is probably just the plural of Clone, especially since plurality is sort of built-in with that concept. But with no primary topic for "Clone" either, I recommend this also be disambiguated at the base title. --BDD (talk) 17:10, 16 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

Post-move cleanup

[edit]

I have done post-move cleanup involving bypassing the disambiguation pages after the page move. However, I have to go to work, so I will not be able to continue cleanup until I come home. If anyone wants to help with link fixing (e.g. changing [[Clones]] to [[Clones, County Monaghan|Clones]]), that would be greatly appreciated. —MRD2014 (talkcontribs) 20:29, 23 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I think a lot of it has been taken care of. —MRD2014 (talkcontribs) 04:05, 24 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Major Edits to Clones, County Monaghan page

[edit]

Hello, I am looking to make some edits to this wiki. I just want to give a clear overview of the changes I wish to make and to declare my conflict of interests. I am a University student doing a Master's in Public History. I am doing an internship at the Ulster Canal Stores heritage center in Clones. So, I am well aware of my bias and would like to declare my intention to represent the town in a neutral manner. I will be citing appropriate secondary sources in order to achieve this aim. The reason for this editing of the wiki is primarily the failure of the webpage to inform the reader about the town's historical features. I have came to this conclusion after receiving complaints from persons native to Clones and my own comparing of Clones' wiki to similar towns on wikipedia such as Clondalkin and Carrickmacross. I attended a Wikipedia workshop earlier in the year run by the Project Coordinator for Wikimedia Community Ireland, so I have a good idea of what to do here. Nevertheless, I have only ever edited one other wikipedia page: Clones abbey, so I am still new and willing to learn. Please let me know if I make any mistakes. The following is an overview of the edits I wish to make:

  1. Addition of town name meaning in summary
  2. Add link to Clones Abbey
  3. Update website link
  4. Addition of citations to history subheading
  5. Update population
  6. Subdivision of “history” into periods eg. Early christian, norman, victorian etc.
  7. historical monuments subheading
  8. Tourism (Ulster Canal, Cassandra Hand Heritage Centre) subheading
  9. Bibliography subheading
  10. Further reading subheading (if necessary)
  11. Add Ulster annals references
  12. Update old photographs
