Criticism

[edit]

The Criticism section states "There has been some concern about the inherent gender bias in the member pledge. In 2003, during the Circle K International Convention (ICON) in Indianapolis, IN an amendment to insert gender neutral language and better reflect the organization's current membership by changing the wording "mankind" to "humankind" failed", which is absolutely ridiculous of them to try and do that, since the man in mankind comes from older English usage, where it meant human being, with no regard to gender. (look at the etymology of the word woman for proof of this). — ᚹᚩᛞᛖᚾᚻᛖᛚᛗ (ᚷᛖᛋᛈᚱᛖᚳ) 02:05, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Whether or not it is rediculous *really* doesn't affect whether or not it should be in the article. The only thing that I'd change is to change the first sentence to "There has been some concern for what some members feel is an inherent gender bias in the member pledge."Naraht (talk) 13:13, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Same thing applies to "All men are created equal". There's no gender involved. If that potion of the article is changed, I'd include "due to a misunderstanding about English language usage". — ᚹᚩᛞᛖᚾᚻᛖᛚᛗ (ᚷᛖᛋᛈᚱᛖᚳ) 00:18, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
My concern is for the integrity of the article. Reference was primary, which is tolerable sometimes. In this case it seemed to be somebody's summary of what happened, not a true "secretary's report" or anything. No record of vote count which might suggest WP:UNDUE weight or lack of same. If it were clobbered, it may not be worth mentioning. If it failed by a few percentage points, it should probably be here. Still... only one year??? That raises suspicion about the endurance of the material. Student7 (talk) 20:06, 12 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
