Inconsistent translations
[edit]Please don't use inconsistent translations of Chinese terms. If you are going to call a dagger-axe a ge or a halberd a ji, a sword a jian, or a blade a dao, then logically a spear should also be called a qiang. Either stick with all English terms, give the appropriate translations first, which should not be deleted, or don't use them at all. Using some Chinese transliterations but not others is confusing. Why is a sword called a jian but a spear is not called a qiang? Also checking some of the sources referenced in this article, none of them persist in calling the weapon a ji past the introduction.Qiushufang (talk) 20:06, 3 January 2020 (UTC)
- Whether Chinese transliterations could be replace by English trems or not depends on similarity. The qiang and the spear are same things, just different names, so they can replace each other. But the ji and the halberd are not, ther are different in shape and definition. So they can't replace each other.
- The more accurate describe can replace those not such accurate describe. There are many kinds of Chinese spear/lance can be discribe as "long lance". The sha(鎩) is spear/lance with a crossguard under the blade, so discribe it ""crossguard" lance" is more accurate than "long lance".Ironbolt (talk) 23:24, 3 January 2020 (UTC)
- Again, please provide a source for your information that is an academically published source. The info provided in the pictures clearly say halberd and long lance, and the sources references also agree to a great extent. The ji is not called the ji throughout the texts, but halberds. If you can provide a source that specifically says the ji is not a halberd then please include it. Otherwise, literally every reference in the article says it's a halberd.Qiushufang (talk) 23:36, 3 January 2020 (UTC)
