Cédric Gervais → Cedric Gervais – It seems that the accent over the 'e' in "Cedric" is commonly not included when spelling Gervais' name; take, for example, his official website, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and SoundCloud. (Not to mention the titling of video for the high-profile "Summertime Sadness" video, and the name of the (hopefully soon-to-be high-profile) "Adore You" video. With this in mind, it appears that the dropping of the accent is intentionally done in a fashion similar to Celine Dion, where the accent over the 'e' in her name is purposefully dropped for some marketing reason. WikiRedactor (talk) 19:31, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:FRMOS. Not really the same as Céline Dion since Canada is bilingual, France isn't. And being based out of Miami doesn't change being French: www.consulfrance-boston.org and French Embassy in Washington D.C. frenchculture.org both give his full name on English pages. Accents are often dropped on mp3 pages, or when writing in CAPS - the same thing happens on many Angélique Kidjo CD covers, becoming ANGELIQUE KIDJO. But this is an encyclopedia, and we don't follow those kind of sources for MOS issues. In ictu oculi (talk) 21:33, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
- Support I don't see what FRMOS has to do with it, he himself doesn't always use it, therefore FRMOS is meaningless, as the form used by the person himself is not consistently accented. WP:OFFICIALNAME we don't use the person's legal name just because it's his legal name. -- 70.50.151.11 (talk) 23:58, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
- The relevant section is WP:FRENCHNAMES. In ictu oculi (talk) 08:13, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
- Which still is WP:OFFICIALNAME reasoning. This person (not some other person, the person this name is used to represent) does not consistently use accents, that section does not apply. -- 70.50.151.11 (talk) 04:53, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
