Notable? alumni
[edit]Perhaps notable should be qualified by the ability to meet some wikipedia notability criteria. I'm moving some of the alumni listed here. Move them back if you have sources to demonstrate notability and can write an aricle about them (some have a few sources already). Or if you don't think they belong at all just put a line through them. -71.72.114.63 21:16, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Academics
[edit]Montgomery Sellers (1873-1942) (class of 1889), dean and professor of history, rhetoric, German, and English at Dickinson College.[1]Blake Lee Spahr (class of 194X?), emeritus professor of comparative literature and German at University of California, Berkeley [2]- Likely these guys fail the criteria in Wikipedia:Notability (academics) -71.72.114.63 21:47, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
August 2008 - I feel there are other areas of notability that could be added such as political, military, etc. Is this the place to question that? I would like to suggest General Eric Schoomaker, Class of 66 who is surgeon general of the army at the current time. Also notable within the arts is Lucian Truscott, Class of 65 - author or several books including Dress Gray. I am working on any female names that may be included - have to explore criteria more since I am new just today. B Thoreau (talk) 16:42, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
- I would agree that Eric Schoomaker and Lucian Truscott are obviously notable as evidenced by their wikipedia articles. Are there any sources showing that they attended CHS that we can cite? -71.72.114.63 (talk) 18:16, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
Arts and Music
[edit]- Lawrence Loh (class of 1988), Resident Conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic since 2005. Also former Associate Conductor of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra (2002-2005) and former Associate Conductor of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra (1998-2002). [3]
- Laura Choi Stuart (class of 1997), opera singer. [4][5]
Dan Loh (class of 1990), photographer, Pulitzer Prize winner.- 15 members of the AP staff shared the 1999 Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography, this is notable, but maybe not notable enough. -71.72.114.63 21:40, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
- Kim Varhola (class of 1994), Broadway Singer/Entertainer. Broadway credits include: Pacific Overtures, Rent, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Anything Goes, and Flower Drum Song. [6] [7]
Athletics
[edit]- David Henninger, (class of 2001), baseball pitcher drafted in 2005 by the Kansas City Royals and began playing for their Pioneer League team, the Idaho Falls Chukars; as of spring 2006 he is pitching for the class A minor league team, the Burlington Bees. [8] [9]
- Brandon James, (class of 2005) baseball pitcher drafted in 2005 by the Texas Rangers. [10] [11]
- Dave Lebo (class of 1962), various high school and college basketball coaching positions; head coach at Carlisle High for 19 seasons (1977-88, and 1990-98); guided the team to four consecutive State Championships (1985-1988); named "Pennsylvania Coach of the Year", 1988 by the Associated Press; currently assistant coach at Auburn University. [12]
- Michael Owens (Class of 1986), running back, 1985 “Pennsylvania High School Player of the Year,” leading team to District Championship; MVP of the ’86 Big 33 All-Star Game; later played for Syracuse University; also played as a guard in two high school State Championship basketball games with brother, Billy and Jeff Lebo; sprinter on high school track team. [13]
- Roscco Salomone (class of 1983) first-team All-State football as a junior and led his team to an undefeated season and the Pennsylvania AAAA state title; was a two-year starter at SUNY Brockport after stints at Juniata College and East Stroudsburg; current head football coach at SUNY Brockport. [14]
John Shearer, (class of 1966?) baseball player drafted in 1966 by the Kansas City Athletics. [15]- Not enough info -71.72.114.63 21:42, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Jason Shafer (Class of 1990) Track & Field. Shafer is the most well rounded throw athlete in Central Pennsylvania history. He holds one of the longest standing records in Hershey's Track & Field State Games with an astounding softball throw of 159' .75", which has stood since 1982. http://www.prps.org/statemeetrecords.htm Shafer also earned 2nd place in the ultra competitive Discus Throw in the Division I, AAAA District Championships also held in Hershey, PA after picking up the sport only 2 months earlier.- Any fame beyond high school track? -71.72.114.63 21:42, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
