Birthdates
[edit]Two different birthdates are stated: March 1, 1971 (in the text) and March 1, 1974 (in the summary box on the right). Thulcandra (talk) 14:21, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
- I was just coming here to post about that. IMDB says March 1, 1971, and I'm inclined to believe them over USA Today, which is the link for March 1, 1974. (That date isn't actually given in the linked-to article, just that she is 36 in 2010.) That being said, I see you posted the above two years ago, so I'm less likely to think it's just a onetime USA Today mistake. Maybe IMDB is at fault. Anyone out there reading this? Moncrief (talk) 02:29, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
- Let's try some logic. If she graduated from Columbia after 3 years in 1995, then she was probably 18 in 1992. 1992 minus 18 yields 1974.Darci (talk) 02:36, 12 September 2018 (UTC)
- This is an encyclopedia; we don't guess or estimate, we use information published in reliable sources. Per the policies linked in the section titled "Birth date" below, policy requires us to include the date of birth only if it has been widely published in reliable sources.--Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 15:49, 12 September 2018 (UTC)
- But we do have a reliable source (i.e. The New York Times) stating she graduated in 1995 after three years, which gives us a birth year. So we can't be sure of a complete birth date, but the page is implicitly stating, with sources, her birth year, so we might as well stating it explicitly. Kumagoro-42 (talk) 00:05, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
- The New York Times article states "she worked her way through Columbia in three years with a double major in English and political science"; that's not providing a birth year and does not meet the requirements of WP:DOB. It's essentially WP:SYNTH in that editors are trying to cobble together various bits of information from sources in an attempt to state something that is not explicitly stated in any of the sources.-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 19:02, 28 March 2019 (UTC)

Birthdates
[edit](talk) 03:35, 07 July 2018 (UTC) i dont agree that Cara Buono was born in 1974 she was born in 1971
Birth date
[edit]Wikipedia's policy regarding birth dates is clear that only birth dates that have been widely published in reliable sources are to be included. As the birth year for Cara Buono is disputed, and as no sources meeting our reliable sourcing criteria have been presented, the date has been removed in accordance with policy. Note that tertiary databases such as IMDb do not meet reliable sourcing criteria (see here, here and here). The "On this Day" sections of newspapers do not have the same editorial oversight as articles and also do not meet reliable sourcing criteria for disputed biographical content.--Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 20:35, 5 July 2018 (UTC)
- To back that up, I'll link to two articles from the same source, United Press International, generally considered reliable: saying 1971; saying 1974. --GRuban (talk) 15:01, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
Main Photo
[edit]Can we possibly change the photo to something a little more flattering? The chosen pic is extremely flat and not a good one. 2600:6C64:667F:84AC:5A9A:D6D:45FD:919F (talk) 17:01, 9 July 2022 (UTC)

After all that, we're using a newsicle from Buzzfeed?
[edit]Her age is sourced to a newsicle (not a news article) in Buzzfeed and Ladbible, which Media Bias/Fact Check rates as a very low quality source based on "hyper-sensational stories, promotion of pseudoscience, and poor sourcing of information." (See: https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/ladbible/ and/or just look at the landing page! Ponyo, have you given up on this? (It seems like the back and forth has gone on for years.) JSFarman (talk) 23:01, 23 January 2023 (UTC)
- @JSFarman: Yup, the sources are razor thin when it comes to reliability. The current state of the article also doesn't account for the 1971 date sometimes reported as noted in the section(s) above. It should probably be removed.-- Ponyobons mots 23:44, 23 January 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks Ponyo. I thought I was losing my mind. Or at least my ability to assess sources! JSFarman (talk) 23:48, 23 January 2023 (UTC)
